My name is Caitlin Ross-Poteet. I am in love with song and sound. Music has kept me alive through my worst times. My musical influence comes originally from my mother, Marilyn Ivy Ross, R.I.P. With
the voice of a nightengale, awesome skill with piano and guitar,
and all the passion of the earth and stars she proplled me foward so that I might be able to pursue a career in singing. The singing eventually lead me to acting and modeling, but modeling took me far from my passion by making me worry more about my image than the message. I was lead right back again by my childhood passion for writing. I have been writing my own songs since Eigth grade, but only just started taking myself seriously. I would love nothing more than, for the rest of my life singing my own songs at the top of my lungs. I don't have to get uber famous, I finally realized, though that was my original dream, and I don't have to be a 16 year old pop prodigy, as I always thought. I have my own path to tread. Even so, I am strongly influenced by the princess of pop, britney Spears, the soulful Judy Collins, Joan Baez, Vanessa Carlton, and Michelle Branch. I was also an orginal Broadway baby. I have seen over 25 Broadway shows and there are so many more I would like to see. Rock of all kinds also flows through my blood with my mother and father's love of artists such as John Denver, the Beatles, The Roaches, and many others, and of course major props to my brothers taste rock including greats such as The Ramones, The Misfits, Helloween, Guns N Roses, Aerosmith, a handful of Euro bands, and many many others. Other musical influences are of course Elvis, Frankie S., Missy, No Doubt, James Brown and so many others.
I want all my music to rock, but to have many different elements and sounds. My goal for the next year is to gather a back-up band, record my new songs and to gather a following so I can rock this world. On my father's side, I also have a bunch of people who performed amongst the greats back in the 1940's (or so I'm told, who knows?) and as my grandmother says "performing is in my blood". Very cool.
Starting in February I attend The American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City. I hope to compose my songs and recreate my voice with amazing teacher Kim Stern, who I've been working with since I was about 11 years old. She is amazing and always keeps me inspired even when it feels to tough to keep pushing through. Even if she doesn't know it. I will have a website up soon, and hopefully in the months to come my new demo will be in the works. On this page I have an old demo of mine called "If I Give You My Heart".
It's very poppy, and my style has kind of changed since then. My style is much more solemn now. Not because my life sucks, but just because I write when I'm overwhelmed with emotion or when I feel like I have something to say worth being heard. I just haven't had anything amazingly jubilent happen to me which forced me to come up with a very up-beat song in a while. I just need to be patient and wait for something good to write about. Hope you guys dig this page, and keep a look-out for my new songs to appear and for some cabaret appearences in the City. I want to make music for creation's sake. Not so I can be someone else's brainless Barbie doll creation stormed up by the Man. I've been doing that for far too long. But I'm not the typical "hot chick" and never will be. I'm only what I am, and what I look like shouldn't even matter. If you use all your senses and fully absorb my music, than my image shouldn't matter. I'm going to write and sing what's on my mind and what my life is like. I just wanna ROCK the fuck out of life. I'm only here once and I've spent too much time letting myself be brought down already. The next step is just look for afew awesome individuals who will rock life with me. Collaborations are what I absolutley can't wait for. But, until those experiences come along, my friends and family are the most killer/premium collaborations I could ever ask for. They save my soul, and I have nothing but the best times with them. I'm living my life as a song. Rock on.
