About Me

I grew up in S.E. Washington, D.C. in a neighborhood called Jeffrey Terrace, just off of Stanton Road. It was on a dead end street laced with misery, poverty, quiet hope and humble pride. My large family of eight moved to N.W. when I was seventeen to a neighborhood called Sursum Cordas. This project community was more worse than the last place, but only a block from the nation's Capitol building. You know where all the senators and house of representatives decided our nation's fate? I could literally see the dome from my second floor bedroom window. But there were three other projects including the tower, a half-way house, a Korean high-priced grocery store named RichFood, and an elementary school on the same block. Go Figure! I made it I guess, despite the odds. I even self-published a novel that won a national award. Check it out at www.kiadupree.com

Nappy Headed vs. Ho

Wow...I'm actually laughing out loud about this whole Imus mess. It literally cracks me up. Why? Because we did this to ourselves. We women are ashamed of the way dead cells spring naturall...

Rush Hour Train Rides in NYC

Commuting from Brooklyn to New York City is often the highlight of my day and it's usually more work than the paying job I have. Passengers hulk spit onto filthy train tracks, plump rats scatter...
