About Me

"the quartet is, in reality, a quintet"- idaho state journal
"i don't think toast is going to make it next semester... they just don't rock hard enough" -anonymous
"just wanted to let you know how wonderful what it is what it is that thing that is whatever it is what you are doin... " -some guy with a tuba
-------
the toast has ceased to exist. thanks to everyone who played with, helped out, or showed up. it was fun, but it apparently wasn't meant to be.
please check out our new band: Ashley and the Astronaughts
-------
the toast was probably a mistake. founding member andy re-evaluated his lifelong dream of a rock clarinet choir when, after trying out most of the members of the clarinet family, he realized that using any type other than the bass would be counterproductive. using recordings by edmund welles and michael lowenstern, he was able to motivate previously skeptical colleagues to acquire bass clarinets and form a quartet. this group existed for about a week before they all got bored with it and augmented the lineup with vocals, guitar, and percussion to form the world's greatest psychadelic folk rock band.
the (thankfully) unique sound of the toast features jazz-influenced folk rock, avant garde blues jams, difficult lyrics, frightening noises, overcomplicated arrangements, and way too much bottom end.
-------
current myspace recordings include a jazz cover recorded less than a month after the formation of the group and two originals taken from a camcorder at a bar gig (basically, we bootlegged ourselves...).
we're working on a real studio demo so you can hear what we're supposed to sound like. it should be done some time in the next eleven years.
