David Day has been making music most of his life. It all started out on the kiddie xylophone that he got for Christmas when he was 3. One day, his mom came around the corner to find little David playing a song note-perfect with the color-coded music book turned face down! Mom realized her son had potential, and soon he was given a miniature keyboard to play. At age 8, he began taking organ lessons.
In the 7th grade, David began playing piano and was one of several accompanists for the choir, which he did all the way through high school. He continued as accompanist for the choir at Normandale Community College, where he was a music major. David has performed in several musicals at church, and he sang in a barbershop chorus and a barbershop quartet. He has sung with the Elizabethan Syngers at the Renaissance Festival and also with the Minnesota Chorale . He was the choir accompanist and organist at his former church for 12 years.
In 2004 and 2005, he played keyboards with Ray Covington and the RC Band, an R&B band in the Twin Cities..
In 2005, he co-founded D & C Swingin' Christmas with someone with the initial C. They performed jazzy, swingin' arrangements of traditional Christmas music. In 2006, they formed Jazzophonic (the sounds of jazz!), which featured easy listening jazz standards with a sprinkling of original music.
David is the accompanist for the NOTE-able Singers (and occasional vocal soloist). The NOTE-ables are a women's show choir based in Bloomington, Minnesota, and they have been performing in the Twin Cities area since 1974. He also is honored to be play the piano and synthesizer with the Worship Team at Trinity Lutheran Church of Minnehaha Falls in Minneapolis. The Worship Team provides contemporary worship music every Sunday at the second service.
In addition to performing, David also writes and arranges music, including classical, jazz, and easy listening. There will be fresh tunes coming soon, but for now, enjoy original music that was either written or co-written by me.
