"the fish trap exists because of the fish; once you've gotten the fish you can forget the trap. The rabbit snare exists because of the rabbit; once you've gotten the rabbit you can forget the snare. Words exist because of meaning; once you have the meaning you can forget the words. Where can I find a man who has forgotten words so I can have a few words with him?" -Zhuangzi
abraham lincoln, nicola tesla, and john muir. each had humble beginnings, each sacrificed wealth and popularity for higher goals, and each changed the course of history directly though no others would have in their place. tesla would not take a wife for fear his life's work would not be completed. john muir died after (because of?) losing the fight to prevent the hetch hetchy dam. abraham lincoln followed through with insight expressed 25 years prior:"whence shall we expect the approach of danger? shall some transcontinental power step the earth and crush us with a blow? never. all the armies of europe and asia could not by force take a drink from the ohio river or form a line on the blue ridge in the trial of a thousand years. if destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and its finisher. as a nation of free men we must live forever or die by suicide." -abraham lincoln, 1837
