Smear Campaign

Punk rock as it fucking should be!!! Loud, drunk, angry, funny, naked, and always a damn good time! Smear Campaign was started in early 2001 with Cactus Matt on vocals, Wally Emerson on bass, Jimmy on drums, and Chris Pist on guitar. It was originally going to be a new version of Chris and Wally's legendary mid '90's punk rock band "Those Naked Guys". Soon after the first practice, we knew that trying to re-start the old band was not gonna work, but there was a lot of potential for a new band. Thats how The Smear was born. After a year and a half of playing live shows, recording, and amassing a small, but faithful following, Chris Pist decided to leave the band and pursue his education at a university down south. He was quickly replaced by longtime friend and recording engineer Paul Van Cleave (The Mad-Hatters, WFTN), who knew all the songs anyway and the band continued without missing a beat. In the summer of '03 Wally thought it would be best to leave the band to spend more time concentrating on work and spend more time with his family. He will be sorely missed and the band wished him the best of luck. Soon after Wally's departure SC picked up local drunk and bass player Dan "Sweet" Leaf, who had an extrordinary career in the punk band FID. Just after this, Chris Pist returned from his abortive attempt at book learnin and re-joined the band. From late 2003 until the spring of 2004 the band was in its heyday, playing many local shows and touring. Then in September of 2004 tragedy struck: In a drunken state during a practice/party the band imploded. There was much yelling, screaming, and throwing of various objects. Smear Campaign was no more... In late 2005 the band settled most of its differences and decided to ressurect SC from the ashes, and plans to have several reunion shows in early 2006.
