Da BasixStaying true to hip hops roots Da basix consist of two mcs ( Lagik and Swill Gates) and a Dj (Ill SiD). The group was established early 2000 but each individual member has been honing their craft for years. Major musical influences include Slum Village, Tribe Called Quest, Gangstarr, Deangelo,Redman,Quincy Jones, Donald Byrd and a host of others . Each individual group members seems to bring a certain dynamic to the Basix sound. Lagik seems to be the analytical one. Verbally, he bends the opposition to his will; also his conceptual rhyme schemes are very interesting. Swill Gates is more of a lyrical bully but comes across as smooth and mellow. His laid back delivery and witty metaphors have listeners wondering what he will say next. Keeping in line with djs such as the Executioners and Dj Prremier and producers like J-dilla (Slum village) And Pete Rock, Dj Ill-SiD Combines heavy bass lines, muddy bass drums and biting snares to make slices of musical mastery. Da Basix feel that it is time for hip-hop to make a resurgence. The bottom line The ice age is slowly coming to a end. The one thing that remains Constant in hip hop is the basic beats, rhymes, and scratches thats what its about.
