AGA - Ska-Punk-Deluxe
The guys from Saarbrücken, Germany have been on stage since 1997, with an ever-growing line-up. That makes this year our 10-year Anniversary.
10 years of AGA – that amounts to „ten years of fuckin’ up“, in the words of AGA’s masterminds. Because AGA started their musical career with a rough mix of Punkrockcovers à la NoFX & Bad Religion and early songs of their own. Back then, the band was comprised of only four individuals: John (Gituar/Vocals), Marco (Guitar/ Vocals), Dominik (Drums) and Nadim (Bass).
It didn’t take long to become a well-known and reputed band in Saarbrücken, Germany and the region. For example gigs in the „Garage“ with 700 visitors, or in 2001 as part of a demonstration against racism and fascism with 2000 students of Saarbrücken’s schools.
Around the same time, the musical direction of the band started to sway. Marco picked up the trumpet and stand-in saxophone-player Nick became part of the band. AGA’s glances in the directon of Ska became more frequent. The rhythms got slower, the songs more trenchant, and the sound cleaner and tighter.
Exactly this melting-pot of the two very distinct styles of music Punk and Ska is the essence of Another Guardian Angel today. It is that special mixture which makes AGA stand out in the crowd. Of course many other styles and influences can’t be denied.
The band’s line-up was completed with lead singer Bani and trombone-player Chris, which continued to improve the musical quality of the group.
The fanbase and region of influence of AGA grew analogous to the size of the band. In the early years, practically every location in Saarbrücken and the near surroundings had been played at, and many of them more than once. As time passed, concerts in all of southwest Germany and international gigs in Belgium, France and Luxemburg were added to the list.
So the band has fans in a large area of Central Europe, which obviously want to be provided with records.
Previously released was a Do-it-yourself-CD produced in 1999, which is no longer available. But some of the good old AGA songs are to be heard on the "Street Attack Volume 2"-Sampler, released in June of 2001, along with bands like “Die Wohlstandskinder†or “Mindmeltâ€.
In addition there is a song on the "Straight from the Heart Vol. 2" Sampler from Burning Paradise Records, which also featured bands like the Satanic Surfers. In January of 2003 the first serious Album was released: „Kyotoism“. Most of the songs are still on the punkrock-side of AGA’s musical mixture. In the course of time, further songs were featured on various Samplers, some of them in France and in Luxemburg. Towards the end of 2005 the band started recording a new LP. 10 tracks were put down and released on the album titled „Roxy’s Bar“. 2007 will see the distribution of AGA’s music into Eastern Europe, the first step being cooperation with the Bulgarian label Ruddybeatrecords. A sampler will be released towards the end of February 2007.
Since 2006 the Saarbrücken-based company Spirit of Mailorder (www.spiritmailorder.com) has been taking care of merchandising services. Booking is done by three agencies, Falling Stars Booking in France, Rat Trap Booking in Trier, Germany and Murder Scene Booking in Eppelborn, Germany.
The release of the new album (26.01.2007) was celebrated with a CD-Release-Concert in Saarbrücken. Most of all, AGA want to get back on stage, back on tour, and get back on the road.
The mission goes on.......
