"Anis, you shook the dust off me and and everyone else in the audience with the beauty of your words. Thank you." --Saul Williams

Anis is the 2 time National Poetry Slam Individual Champion of 2006 & 2005, and winner of France’s 2007 World Cup Poetry Slam. A former resident of the Oregon Literary Arts Writer’s-In-The-Schools program, he has appeared on HBO and NPR. Anis’ work has appeared in Rattle and alongside the works of US Poet Laureates Ted Kooser and Billy Collins, in the anthology Spoken Word Revolution Redux. His latest book Over the Anvil We Stretch, is published by Write Bloody Publishing, and was recently nominated for the 2008 PUshcart Prize.
Originally from New Orleans, Anis is louder then he realizes. He likes kickball. He likes sitting in movies alone. He used to ice cupcakes for a living. Now he makes tents out of bedrooms and bedsheets. He is not Indian, he is not Mexican, or a terrorist. He’s Black and Iranian. And no his parents were not foolish enough to name him after a body part, so no the name is not pronounced “anus.â€
He currently lives in a white house in Portland, Oregon, with three guys and a cat named Ivan, where he sometimes has a beard and sometimes does not. Anis believes that his cat loves him. He believes that there is something bigger than the things we see and that it hold us when we are not looking. He hopes he is strong enough to do the same for you.

"I watched Anis win the 2005 Individual National Poetry Slam Championship. He did it with Truth, not gimmick. Damn that's inspiring." --Buddy Wakefield

"Mojgani is not your typical national poetry slam champion. He possesses all of the insight and passion one would expect, but very little of the formulaic anger. The playfulness, startling originality, and lyric optimism are all gravy. He's simply the best there is right now." --Taylor Mali

"Anis Mojgani is the only name that comes to mind when I'm reminded of what spoken word should be, and specifically, where it is headed for the better. Knowing that he is out there performing for the world eases my thoughts, and pushes me to write and perform more, better and effectively. He is a very beautiful person doing beautiful things."
