Amanda

It's way past my bedtime.

About Me

I used to be a moody, cool, artsy intellectual hippie-punk rocker chick. Now I'm a boring middle-aged married lady. OK; I lied. I'm not boring...at least I hope not!

My Interests

Bellydance, music, population sustainability, childfree issues, STD education and advocacy, books, film, spirituality & meditation, good food, animals.

I'd like to meet:

Brian Jones from the Rolling Stones, if he were alive. Jim Morrison, if he were alive. Chrissie Hynde. I'm sure I'll think of others later. You know, sometimes it's disappointing to meet people you admire, because they end up being stupid or rude or boring.

Music:

rock (alternative rock, '80s new wave, classic rock, Americana), country, blues, bluegrass, zydeco, middle eastern/bellydance music, Indian music, folk, Celtic, old jazz, old reggae, and all kinds of world music.

Movies:

Favorite movies: Harold & Maude Rocky Horror Picture Show The Producers Young Frankenstein Airplane Monty Python and the Holy Grail

Television:

"Daily Show", "Colbert Report", "24", "Heroes". My guilty pleasure is "Rock of Love".

Books:

Fiction (especially historical fiction - middle ages, ancient rome), non-fiction biographies. The books that made the biggest impression on me are "Ishmael", "My Ishmael" and "The Story of B" by Daniel Quinn, and "Atlas Shrugged" and "The Fountainhead" by Ayn Rand. Right now I'm on a Laurell K. Hamilton kick.

Heroes:

Anyone who has done something brave, creative, innovative or altruistic. Gertrude Elian is the first person who popped into my mind. And the guy that "Hotel Rwanda" is based on.

Oranges, oranges, oranges!

We have way too many mandarin oranges in our garden.  It's too much for 2 people to eat! I've given them to friends, I've brought them into work, I've left bags of them by the neighbors' doors, I...

Woo-hoo!

What a week it's been!  First the democrats win the House and the Senate, then Britney and K-Fed split up!  I wonder if those events are related.
