About Me

Three-thirty in the morning and instead of sleeping I was sweeping the floors. For the last three months I had been dragging through this routine. I used my ipod to keep me sane and awake while my coworkers had their own methods of fighting off boredom. Snaggletooth, the crazy-looking guy that called me Gravy, had disappeared ahead of me so I walked into the next room alone. The stench I noticed first, but then I began to wonder why the tables had lids. I then noticed something moving out of the corner of my eye. It was Snaggletooth grinning from ear to ear, waving a skinless cadavers arm at me. At that point I realized the powers of the world were trying to tell me that this wasnt for me. So I listened.
This summer I worked a real graveyard shift in the biology building at IU and as soon as I had enough money to make my album, I quit. Since my days in middle school I had played in different bands and groups, and every band thought that all we needed was a record contract and an album. Then we would be free to take over the world. We always had such lofty goals but somehow never made it and didnt think it was possible to do on our own.
Ten years later, but not on my own, I have my album. Shelbyville natives and long time buds Adam Scarzo (guitar) and Amber Nash (vocals) added their talents to the recording, along with several other friends from bands over the years. Without any outside backing we managed to write, record, produce, mix, and master an album from start to finish. The bulk of the recording was done at Mellencamp guitarist Mike Wanchics Echo Park Studios in Bloomington, and the final touches were finished up in various apartments scattered between friends.
Its a great time to be in and into music. Technological advances in audio technology, the digital revolution, make it simple and cost effective to bring what at one time was considered professional sounding recording into your home. The Internet has opened a new path of communication between artists and fans and brings the independent artists at level with the majors. Online retail options like iTunes, Amazon, CDBaby, XM and collage radio, and MySpace can all be very useful tools. If you have a dream you no longer need to be that one lucky band with a major label and a team of execs. All you need is a good ear and a little motivation, hopefully not as creepy as the waving cadaver kind, to do it yourself.
