Isaac Jaffe

Cited by All About Jazz as a bassist with "all the groovy elasticity necessary to encompass the melodic complexity of compositions," Isaac Jaffe is a strong voice in a new generation of musicians. Discovering a love for the upright bass in his youth, Isaac began performing in coffee shops and jazz clubs at the age of 15. Enamored with the thriving local jazz scene Isaac quickly became one of the most sought after young musicians in Westchester County. While still in high school Isaac had the opportunity to study with jazz legend John Patitucci. Isaac was an obvious choice for selection in New York's prestigious All-State festival.In 2009 Isaac graduated from New York University's undergraduate jazz program where he studied with many seminal jazz musicians including Ari Hoenig, George Garzone, Kenny Werner, Jean-Michel Pilc, and Martin Wind.In the summer of 2008 Isaac was invited to join and record with Soundcarrier, a free improvisational group led by Robert Dick. In fall 2008 Isaac recorded School of Fish with The Mara Rosenbloom Quartet.In the spring of 2009 Isaac recorded and self released his first CD Of Pandas and People, featuring his original compositions and a group of powerful improvisers. Following their New York debut, The Isaac Jaffe Quintet embarked on a tour of Costa Rica in the summer of 2009. In addition to leading his quintet, Isaac plays with many New York City jazz musicians, young and old, and composes music of all styles for film and television.
