My Mom Tells Me I'm Talented (and Handsome)

About Me

As a small child, Josh wanted to be a garbage man, but all that changed when he was introduced to the piano at age five. His interest in music only grew stronger, and by age ten, he was immersed in the world of stand up bass. With over fourteen years of experience on upright, and six on electric (fretted and fretless), he has broadened his classical training to include R&B, jazz, and funk as well as country, rock, and hip-hop.Over the years, Josh has been a member of several bands. Starting in his hometown, Chicago, he played with Nakid Hed, an improv-oriented group with five other musicians and later, The Suburban Wrecking Crew. A fusion of hip-hop, funk, and jazz. When he relocated to the Washington, DC, metro area less than two years ago, one of the first tasks was to find a new group. He landed with Walnut Grove Band, a roots rock band, and moved on to join Heather Renee's modern jazz/ rock ensemble. Also a recent addition to The Ballistiks, an 80s cover band, Josh has played up and down the east coast since his move to DC.He has also shared the stage with such notable musicians as Christian McBride, Rufus Reid, Bill Mays, Richard Davis, and Jerry Jermont.Josh attended Butler University on a talent scholarship and interned at the Levine School of Music. Past instructors include Steve Wilson, David Murray, Kenn Smith, and Pepe Gonzalez. He is available to offer private lessons to beginner and intermediate students on bass, guitar, and piano who love to play. If interested, please contact him at [email protected].
