About Me

Joseph Clayton Mills is a musician, writer, and artist who lives and works in Chicago, where he is an active participant in the improvised and experimental music community, chiefly as a member of the group Haptic (with Adam Sonderberg and Steven Hess). He has performed or collaborated with such notable musicians as Tony Buck, Olivia Block, Mark Solotroff, Jon Mueller, and Sylvain Chauveau, among many others, and has appeared on recordings released on FSS, Entr’acte, Bloodlust!, Nature Bliss, and either/OAR. In addition, his fiction and criticism have been published both in the United States and abroad. He has written and edited texts for The Snow Show, an international collaborative exhibition of art and architecture held in Finland in 2004, and The Snow Show 2006, held in conjunction with the Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy. His text-based paintings, assemblages, and installations have been shown at galleries and alternative spaces in Chicago and New York.
