About Me

"We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams"
I'm single. Currently a professional musician and audio-for-video producer, I've also had several other careers (road musician, high school teacher, public radio host). I yo-yo a lot. A lot. I also write and play jazz, rock, funk and/or classical music every day for art's sake and an audience that may or may not emerge in my lifetime. In a while, perhaps I'll move to another market (NY) and try the music business there.
A bit obsessive about fitness and training I work out daily, run a marathon a week (about 4 miles a day), and take very long bike rides. I also practice yoga, The Alexander Technique and tai chi. I eat very well. Most importantly I know what's fun, seek it, and I like to laugh a lot.
I am in circus and dance performances, always have a yo-yo in a holster on my belt and don't sleep much. I also enjoy reading dictionaries, cartoon sound effects and voices, science and creative correct punctuation.
I am on OKCupid, a dating website, and there is a test you can take to see if we'd have fun communicating or if you'd just be irritated by me. It is at http://www.okcupid.com/matchme?u=thejimnasium.

Sounds Like: ---My jazz piano work is kind of Thelonius Tatum meets George Crumb wrapped in a Herbie Hancock shell. Ballads are part Bill Evans and some say Bruce Hornsby.

---Flypaper is a Techno/Jazz band that improvises House, Breakbeat and Trance music on the spot in costume.

---The Maneri Brothers is funky jazzy instrumental jam where we play variations on 60s, 70s and 80s pop songs. Some call it jazz, some call it a jam band, most like it.

10,000 hours of yo-yoing

Jamaican Sprinting?

My brother Phil asked me:"What's with the Jamaican Sprinters? Don't they just lay around on the beach smoking weed all day in Jamaica? Where does anybody in Jamaica have to BE in a hurry anyways?"
