I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4 upon realizing she couldn't stay still at an early age. awna had her suitcase packed with her comics and a bowl of rice by age 4. leaving home to circle the streets till night fall. she would come home only to play her junkbox organ and spit spaddle "let's go band" on her stolen trumpet. after leaving her young life of music she decided to pursue a life of crime. after a good 12 years she has finally come back full force to a life of musical mayham. in 2001 joining up with the westcoast's favourite gypsy-swinging maniacs "the derby" touring nationally with their indie release "cyborg lovesongs" then came the next level of maddness starting "the red-eyed rounders" (with members of the derby) they went on to tour the south west and canada with their indie release "milk river breakdown" spending much of their time exploring the back hills of montana, they decided to take a long winded break and part ways. -----heading back to the good ol' upstairs, awna teamed up with some friends and started barley wik. releasing two full length albums and touring nationally for three years. receiving great recognition and suppoort from local vancouver island awards for album of the year/most listenable c.d./ best acoustic act and appearing on three different music compilations nation wide. check out www.barleywik.com. feeling restless she decided to start a new chapter. she has recently joined po'girl. a wonderful bunch of bastard vagabonds. including life time touble maker allison russell and now benny sidelinger of "the shiftless rounders" over the last few years they have spent all their time touring around the world hitting four different continents and fourteen countries with their new release "home to you". at the same time alli's and awna's other project "sofia" has been collecting newspaper clippings and recordings. they spent ten days in an old farm house with jason mercer and ana egge, recording their songs. they also had the treat of luther wright and sarah harmer coming out to guest on the new record "No Shame". already hitting the CBC airwaves. "No Shame" was un-offically released in the UK and Europe in fall of 2007, where they toured switzerland and all over the UK with chicago's finest JT and The Clouds. now well into 2008, they headed out on the in the first week a jan. and teamed up with benny and friends in chicago to start the recording of their new po'girl album.it is scheduled for release in the fall this year. stay tuned for their summer touring scheduling, they will be playing festivals and shows all over north america.
