About Me

I am an unwritten character in a Wes Anderson movie. My life goes accordingly.
There has been a group started to promote my fatherhood. It's called "Eli Scott is my Daddy" - Click here to see it. Then join because the name of it is true..
So, I decided to actually write about my life. It’s not very interesting. However, a lot of people don't know these things about me. I'm really a very lucky person who's been blessed beyond belief. (some would say that it has to be one or the other).
General:
My name is Eli. My full name is Michael Elijah Scott. I am actually not more indie than you, but that won't stop me from making false claims about it. My life revolves around my wonderful, beautiful wife and my music. (which some would say isn’t so beautiful nor wonderful) I play in a band called the awkward romance . We work really hard at being a band, that's how I spend the vast majority of my time, since I do a lot of the promotion, booking, management, etc. I also run the band myspace, so I pay no attention to my personal myspace page. Accept my apologies in advance for not writing you back, commenting you back, or adding you to my top 8 or 16 or whatever. I am fat, but I've lost a little weight recently due only to health concerns, not due to how you think I should look. I also like to play basketball in real life, as well as in video games. I write outlandish and ridiculous lyrics for the band, that are generally edited into something comprehensible by our genius vocalists. I don't listen to the radio, but that's not so I can be cool. It’s just that I've always liked to hear an album that a band puts forth as a work of art. For that reason, I don't really care much for compilations, but I do make them occasionally. (ironymuch?) I'm a nice guy, but I try really hard to make people like me, (it has to do with me growing up fat, just watch an evening w/ Kevin Smith's dvd to see what I'm talking about) so I try to say clever things. 94% of the time, those clever things offend someone within hearing distance. I also have a halfway decent vocabulary, and I tend to use it. This irritates people because they think I'm showing off. They also think I'm showing off when we go to the mexican restaurant, and the waiter or waitress figures out that I speak Spanish, and we talk. I like strange movies. I like all kinds of music, mostly poppier stuff, but I do have my phases. I like music, sometimes I like music I shouldn’t, and sometimes I don’t like music I should. I like Mexican food, Hot Wings, Japanese food, and I love Sushi. I like spicy food in general, and I love to try new foods. I’ll try almost anything, I’ve eaten all sorts of stuff you’d probably find repulsive. It’s in me. I have a mean temper, but most of the time I am a nice and very patient guy. I have a beard. I have an unhealthy obsession with the halo games. I play a couple of guitars: an original 1978 Gretsch BST, and a '72 reissue telecaster thinline. I also occasionally play a fender toronado and an oscar schmidt that sounds amazing. I play through an Orange cab and an Orange head (yeah, I'm endorsed, somehow). I have a couple of pedals, a line 6 mm4, and a line 6 echo park.. I don't use them much, but I'm trying to expand my repertoire. My day job is as an inventory specialist at Bio-Lab in Conyers. Not exciting, let me tell you. I would like nothing more than to tour with my band full-time.
History:
I was a missionary's son, which means that I lived in Mexico for 1 year, and in Peru for seven of my teen years. This has had a great impact on me, and it has made me more aware of certain issues such as racism and discrimination, and how they exist everywhere and in all forms. It has also given me a chance to be completely immersed into several differenet cultures, which is truly an amazing thing. It also allowed me to learn to speak Spanish fluently, and to meet a great deal of amazing people all over the world who have impacted my life in countless ways. I have moved domiciles over 25 times in my life. I learned to meet new people, and to take things such as travel for granted.
My Beliefs:
I was also raised as an independent baptist, which, in case you aren't aware, means (among other things that aren’t as important to teenagers) that you're not allowed to go mixed swimming (boys and girls), know/talk about sex, go to movie theaters, wear shorts (or pants if you're a girl, which I'm not), listen to rock music (not even Christian rock), or play guitar (important). I also wasn't allowed to watch the smurfs, willie wonka, He-Man, Gi Joe, nor Teenage mutant Ninja Turtles. Obviously, I don't agree with ANY of those now, especially since I have recently seen willy wonka. It is amazing. My actual current belief structure is based strictly on my personal relationship with God. I don’t know how to classify it, nor what to call it, since it wasn’t taught to me by someone else. I believe what I believe because of what the Bible says, not what other men/women tell me that I should. The doubting of my faith has also had a healthy effect on it, because it allows me to keep an open mind. There are so many religions and subreligions that use the same books, yet have vastly different belief structures, with each one claiming to be correct, and justifying their beliefs by using different parts of the Bible. I had to step back and decide whether I believed in God. (I DO.) From there I decided that I needed to discover how I needed to live my life. I think that under most circumstances, the commencement and the majority of the dependency to any certain religion is based on a one-time experience, therefore, if I were to play the odds, I should just go to a different church or have a different religious experience every time it’s possible in hopes of getting the right one, because all religions believe they are correct. Also, I do think that church has its place and use by God, but the vast majority of churches today are not reflective of that. I also find that the teaching/preaching (what have you) at churches is shallow at best. With my extremely religious background and consistent study of doctrine, (missionary’s kid) I don’t find much meaning in Sunday School lessons written to appease the minds of those belonging to such a shallow spectrum. The “worship†is also another issue for me, because you either have hymns that are 50 years old, or you have music that is designed to bring out specific emotions based on structures and melodies. I’m not saying that praise isn’t possible through these mediums, but it is difficult for me personally. I think that many people do well to go to church, and I fault neither for the relationship, because God can use any path He chooses, but it’s not working for me right now. Maybe I’ll change, maybe it is a fault of mine, but I personally am struggling to find a church where I can find a place to be used, partly because of the band’s schedule and partly for other reasons. The good thing about most churches is the “plugging in†and interaction (“fellowshipâ€) with likeminded people. I simply don’t have time for that. I do believe God is in the midst of where my friends and I are, “gathered togetherâ€, and we experience what could be classified in Biblical terms as a congregation, but we don’t have the correct governmental infrastructure. Also, I do use a lot of my beliefs in my lyrics, but only because I write about my life and the band's lives. I think that it’s important for each person to discover God for his or herself, not in my way, and not in any other person’s way.
I guess that’s it. I don’t know what else to tell you. If you have questions, ask. I will be glad to answer them.
