To quote Jimmy Buffett "I am umbilically connected to the temperate zone." Being born in Key Largo is one of the things I'm most proud of, as if I had some say as to where my parents procreated. But the reality is I wasn't actually born there. Modern medicine hadn't quite yet reached that tiny string of islands and my father had to cart my mom 40+ minutes away to the mainland, Homestead. Tell someone you're from Homestead and they'll ask you where the hell that is. Key Largo is so much more romantic. They made a movie about it! My family & I only stayed a few years, and moved back to South Carolina where they were from. I grew up in Aiken until I finally left for college in Columbia. That didn't work out so well for me since I didn't have a clue what I wanted to be and was just wasting time. I left college early and made my way back to Florida, West Palm Beach to be exact and after a roller coaster of a ride there (6+ years) I decided moving back home was a good idea. Except I just can't get away from the water so Garden City Beach it is, for now!
