With its first comic strip published in September of 2000, Dead End was jettisoned from the shallows of the mind of graphic artist/funk propogator Nick DeSantis onto the Syracuse University scene by way of The Daily Orange . As the newspaper of choice by all Syracuse University students and faculty alike, it was cherished for not only its biting social commentary and award winning maverick reporting, but especially for its time wasting crossword puzzles which seemed to turn droning three hour lectures into joyous word-finding flights of fancy.

Next to that hallowed crossword puzzle, however, was the Daily Orange comics section, which gave the start to such nationally syndicated alternative comics as Rehabilitating Mr. Wiggles and Perry Bible Fellowship . From September 2000 to May of 2003, over 140 Dead End comic strips were published in that paper, ending only because of DeSantis' graduation that year.

For three years, little happened on the Dead End front. Unfortunately, factors such as "a life" and "earning money in order to sustain a comfortable lifestyle" got in the way of the cultural juggernaut that was Dead End. In early 2006 however, due to the unwavering, unrelenting demands of billions of upstate New Yorkers, the strip is back. That's right....call your pedophile uncle and kick your parole officer in the ballbag: Dead End has returned!

Documenting the exploits of two lazy, frustrated college graduates as they barely try to navigate their way to something resembling success, Dead End is a weird, surreal, absurdist take on the futility of many of life's conventions. And if you want a less pretentious take on the comic: A bunch of bug eyed huge headed freaks make weird jokes that tend to involve poo and possibly a tit or two (on a good day...).

A selection of old comics will be rotated on this site regularly, along with all new ones that should be put up here relatively frequently (at least once a week, but preferably twice a week), so keep checking back often for new stuff.

High Five ,

ND
