About Me

MyGen Profile Generator

Born on 24th November 1986 in Newcastle, r0ckdave was destined to be a star. After hearing Bomb The Bass' 1987 UK No.2 hit "Beat Dis" in 1993 he knew he wanted to become a weird music producer person. Dave was educated at the great Priory Primary School in is local town of Tynemouth where he lavished in the great education given to him, in particular music class. Dave realised he was a natural born musician when he started playing the guitar in Year 4 in Mr Richardsons' music class. Other then appearing on TV with Jimmy Nail, meeting Evil Jared from the Bloodhound Gang and infamously hitting someone on the back with a tennis racket Dave hasn't had much fame, until now.

Living in the rough suburban "Millfield" district of Tynemouth has given Dave a flavour of street life. After joining numerous gangs in his younger life including the feared He-Man Woman Haters Club and the now disbanded Spot-Nose Gang he decided to keep a low profile, appearing on the streets every now and then to perform a 'mental act' to make sure his name wouldn't be forgotten. For the most part, Dave was watching TV, playing Sega and listening to East 17, but every now and then he would immerse himself in the music that he wanted so badly to become a part of. Deciding that rock was the way forward in 1997 after hearing Hansons' agonising "Mmm Bop" Dave requested an electric guitar from his Uncle who refused to acknowledge the request with a response. Instead he decided to ask Santa and that year he got what he wanted. After numerous attempts and failures at trying to master Cornershops - Brimful of Asha, he came to the conclusion that he needed guitar lessons, as he was shit. 5 years later he was still shit, so he kept on getting them until he could play the riff from Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice Baby". When someone hearing Dave play this tune asked why he was playing Queen's "Under Pressure", Dave decided to find out on the Internet why Mr Ice (real name is Rob Van Winkle) had stolen Brian May's fabulous riff. What he found was a new form of music called 'Rap' that was based on concept sampling - stealing other peoples music and arseing around with it in the attempt that the original performer wont recognise it. After listening to literally 100's (read: 3) of these rap albums, Dave decided that a merge of rock and rap could be a fresh new concept and would no doubt make him rich. After finding out via the Internets that this concept was developed in 1986 when Run-DMC had a hit song with the then coke-addicted rockers Aerosmith, he decided to go back to the drawing board and come up with something original. 5 minutes of thinking time later, he decided to merge rock with rap, hip-hop, soul, dance, electronica, easy listening, weird sounds, sampling and classical music to create a new nameless genre which people would either love or (most likely) hate.

In 2004 he spent most of the year listening to new music and sampling various artists, whilst buying a guitar effects unit to make himself sound better then he actually is. After illegally downloading Sound Forge 6 form Kazaa he decided recording his first set of demos, which he never got finished. The demos combined all his favourite genres of music and each one successfully managed to infringe on at least one registered copyright. In late 2004 he decided to continue making the demos until they were finished then re-record them to produce a debut E.P, which he still hasn't done, but will do soon. 2005 was spent changing ideas around and starting from scratch as the Arctic Monkeys had stolen most of his ideas. A yet-to-be-published-in-NME interview was conducted in 2006 where r0ckdave stated his debut E.P was 'almost' finished.

In late 2006 Dave decided that all his previous efforts at smashing musical barriers were awful. He decided that he wanted to replicate the dancey, psychedelic weirdness of numerous tracks he listened to whilst off his tits and thus a new goal was set. One year later and he has several unfinished works of pure art he shall shortly unleash upon the unsuspecting public (a.k.a anyone who'll listen).

2008 was a period of 'change and continuity' for r0ckdave. Change in that he decided to make new music. Continuity in that it was the same old shite as before. Nevertheless he drove forward and completed some new tracks (most likely the lot your listening to now) and managed to bag a DJ set or two in the process. Feeling honored that people actually appreciated his noise, he started recording more tracks and utilised the MicroKorg he got for his 21st birthday in doing so. This way he could be an authentic 'art school synth wanker'. That summer he created arguably the greatest Summer themed mixtape ever assembled by someone from Tynemouth with the first name of 'David'.

In early 2009 Dave felt pressure from University was causing his musical output to become less and less. One thing Dave has always noticed about himself is that he starts a track, gets bored and moves on. With this in mind he decided to revisit many of his unreleased 'cuts' (as they say in the Biz) and re-work them for eventual general release. He also gave up trying to make dance music as it was quote "too fucking difficult" and returned to rock/hip hop routes, albeit with a more electronic vibe. Never keen to record his own vocals (due to embarrassment), Dave is currently figuring out ways to disguise his own voice and also produce songs for other vocalists. He is confident this will allow him eventual global domination, or at least have one of his tracks played in a club. That'll be nice.
