My AOL Profile

Ok. Stephen here; many call me Ste. I am 43, though I do not look it--I say this without any modesty, whatsoever; I explain my youthful appearance by telling people it is because I act infantile. I was born in Texas, raised all over America and even in some European countries. I am a the sign of the crab, though I don't know what that means, since I don't understand astrology. In my life have had a few professions - most notably I was a photographer-you may have seen my work around show business circles (and some of the profiles in my TOP FRIENDS list are often those with default phots I took, most notably the Nancy LaMott profile). I still take pictures of my loved ones, of New York City, of whatever art interests me and any artist or celebrity who inspires me enough to pick up a camera. I write but am rarely paid to do so--I maintain two different blogs which are not for everyone. That's fine by me - read them or don't, it's up to you. My ideal job would be to host a talk show or be a game show celebrity: being paid/being famous just to be yourself is my idea of heaven on earth. A health and fitness fanatic, I am beginning a new career as a fitness trainer, which excites me a LOT. I have been espoused to the most amazing man for twenty one years; we have a committed, non monogamous relationship that puts most people in a position of awe. Yay for us! I'd love to say that I am nice--but nice is such a generic term. I think I am many things that could be called good, I know I am some things that could be called not so good; most importantly, though, I am honest. It gets me in trouble sometimes. That's ok. I can handle trouble.
TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF - The Survey
Name: Stephen Aaron Mosher
Birthday: 7-8-64
Birthplace: Dallas, Texas
Current Location: New York
Eye Color: My eyes are the colour of a freshly polishe cherrywood coffee table.
Hair Color: Brown (with a touch of grey); though I keep my head shaved
Height: It was 5'8.5" but at my last physical, it would appear I have shrunk an inch.

The Shoes You Wore Today: New Balance sneakers
Your Weakness: I don't know if I have one anymore. I am an addict. I have, in this life, quit drinking and smoking and (to a large extent) eating; so I think I have proven that I can conquer any weakness. I know, though, that we all have them. I just don't know what mine is anymore. My spouse says my weakness is a lack of self control. I think (at the end of the day) my weakness is an inability to let go of the past (which I am working on). That is the long answer, at least.
Your Fears: I don't fear much. Because of things in my past, I have feared 1) being judged 2) being boring 3) being fat. These days I fear (almost exclusively) the deaths of my parents and that of my spouse.
Your Perfect Pizza: I have eschewed the eating of pizza. Could you die? I think I order pizza once a year. It is usually just cheese pizza. Have mercy.
Goal You Would Like To Achieve This Year: There are two months left to 2007. By Christmas my goals are 1) to be a certified personal trainer and 2) to have only 8 % body fat.

Thoughts First Waking Up: "I must take my fat burners."

Your Bedtime: 11 pm if I can make it happen.
Your Most Missed Memory: All of my memories seem to be intact. If the real question is "what do you miss?" -- the answer is: my (adopted) son.
Pepsi or Coke: I don't do that.
MacDonalds or Burger King: I don't do that.
Single or Group Dates: It depends on the nature of the date...
Lipton Ice Tea or Nestea: I don't do that.
Chocolate or Vanilla: Either flavour protein drink will do.
Cappuccino or Coffee: I don't do that.
Do you Smoke: I don't do that, I am extremely proud to say.
Do you Swear: It has been said that I have elevated it to an artform.
Do you Sing: Yes, as often and as loudly as I can, even though it has been drummed into my head that I am a terrible singer.
Do you Shower Daily: Sometimes several times a day.
Have you Been in Love: I am in love now.
Do you want to go to College: God, yes.
Do you want to get Married: God, yes -- the government has made it difficult but it CAN be done... sort of.
Do you belive in yourself: Sometimes. More now than ever before.
Do you get Motion Sickness: Not often.
Do you think you are Attractive: Sometimes
Are you a Health Freak: God, yes.
Do you get along with your Parents: Yes, thank heaven. I hear tell of people who do not. That's sad.
Do you like Thunderstorms: I have never given the matter much thought. I do know that I HATE driving in them..
Do you play an Instrument: It is my wish to learn drums
In the past month have you Drank Alcohol: I don't do that -- haven't in some eight years.
In the past month have you Smoked: I don't do that.
In the past month have you been on Drugs: No.
In the past month have you gone on a Date: No.

In the past month have you eaten a box of Oreos: I have not had an Oreo in so long that I cannot remember it.
In the past month have you eaten Sushi: I have not and I certainly never shall.
In the past month have you been on Stage: No. Not even the stage at a discoteque (read: club)
In the past month have you been Dumped: I have not.
In the past month have you gone Skinny Dipping: I have not.
In the past month have you Stolen Anything: I have not.
Ever been Drunk: Natch.
Ever been called a Tease: I have not; though I believe I am one.
Ever been Beaten up: God, yes -- physically and emotionally. Which one do you think is worse?
Ever Shoplifted: Yes, as a kid.
How do you want to Die: In Pat's arms.
What do you want to be when you Grow Up: I'm afraid I already AM up. And I have been many things. My smartass answer to the question 'what do you want to be when you grow up' is THIN. The spiritual answer is A GOOD MAN. The immediate answer is A PERSONAL TRAINER. The bottom line answer is HAPPY.
What country would you most like to Visit: I want to go to Italy and see it all but, especially, Tuscany.
In a Boy/Girl..
Favourite Eye Color: It doesn't matter. It's what's INSIDE the eyes...
Favourite Hair Color: It doesn't matter, though I have a thing for redheads and I have a big thing for the dark hair/light eyes combination. It's lethal
Short or Long Hair: It doesn't matter.
Height: I've loved a man who is 6 feet tall and I've loved a man who is 5'6"
Weight: In shape. It's not a superficial thing (well.. not very much); it's about a person's self respect and how attractive it is that they care enough to take care of their body.
Best Clothing Style: I don't know about that. Well groomed is all that matters, I think. Though I wouldn't go with someone with an EXTREME style - like Goth - it's too much for me and I admit it.
Number of Drugs I have taken: I don't know what this question means. I mean, I know it isn't about Advil or Claritin. It's about recreational drugs - but, really, why does this matter. I am not running for president so I can admit that I have done drugs. I am also not a drug addict or a dealer, so why the need for this question? Does anyone answer this question with any degree of seriousness?
Number of CDs I own: The number has four digits. I'm not sure what it is but it is THAT high.
Number of Piercings: One - left ear.
Number of Tattoos: Six, all designed by me (though some were executed by other artists). I'd like to have more but you wouldn't BELIEVE how vocal people get when trying to disuade me from it. Buttinskis.
Number of things in my Past I Regret: I try to live regret free. It isn't really possible - at least not for me. I don't (usually) regret things I have done to myself, like letting myself get fat or not taking better care of my hair in an attempt to keep from losing it. I tend to regret things that involve other people. I'm sad to say I have hurt people - I accept that I have done this; I'm an incredibly fallible man and have not (always) been so aware of that. Being a flawed human being means that you will hurt others and it has cost me friendships and relationships that I wish I still had - but that's the past and I cannot, really, change it. All I can do is send as much universal love to those people as I can, hoping it will make up for the crimes I committed against them.

My Interests

I love working. There are so many people who don't; I do. I am a physical fitness fanatic; I even gave up all food cheating - my body is a temple and I will not polute it. I spend my time away from work and working out with my man, my friends and being outside. I like to read but get to, rarely. Love to attend the theater and cinema when it doesn't conflict with the gym. I collect movie posters and lobby cards. We watch things on tv, whether it is something on tv or a dvd. Games are fun--not head games, board games. I am on a spiritual quest but that is personal; it does take up much of my time. Which ArchAngel are you most like?
Rafael. You're most like the ArchAngel of Healing. You want people to shape up, and you nag. But you mean well, and you're well loved despite it. Or because of it. You bring the donuts even as you tell people to eat more veggies.

I'd like to meet:

I like meeting people. It's hard to do so, and to maintain relationships, in New York. Well, it's hard everywhere. It just seems harder in New York. We're so insular. It would be nice if we all had time to nurture relationships but between all the S T U F F we have to do everyday, it can require work. I'll meet potential friends, clients and *others* as long as there is a suggestion, a hint even, that there will be no drama. Simplicity rules.I'm in school to be a fitness trainer and the moment I have my certification, I'll be taking clients. The idea of helping people to be healthy and fit thrills me. If I can make even one person feel the way my trainers have made me feel, it will all have been worth it.Thanks for reading and take care of yourself - you are your greatest allyPeace

Music:

Ecclectic and erratic. Did I spell those words right? Bad speller here. I listen to everything...literally. If you look in my ipod to see the most often played it will show the following: Women: Nancy LaMott, Helen Reddy, Cyndi Lauper, Deborah Cox, Kristine W, Annie Lennox, Madonna, Carly Simon, CHAKA KAHN and YES, Liza, Barbra, Judy, Bassey, Summer, ONJ and Bette--all the gay icons. Men: Marty Thomas, Curtis Stigers, Michael Buble, Sammy Davis Jr, Russell Watson, John Pizzarelli -- and of course, my friend David Campbell. Duh. Groups: Beatles, Wings, Mad Season, Supertramp, Abba, Dave Matthews, Depeche Mode, Maroon Five, Carpenters. There is also some country, some classical, movie soundtracks and musical theater. Which Queer as Folk character are you?
You are Brian Kinney. "The stud of Liberty Avenue," you do what you want, when you want. Your motto is "no apologies, no regrets" and you live life to the fullest, even if it means stepping on the feelings of others to get your way. Despite this however, you do love those who deserve it, although you have strange ways of showing it. You can't do anything halfway, and believe people should get what they deserve, no more, no less.

The Recreation Survey!
MOVIES
What was the first movie you ever saw on the big screen? Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. My parents took me and my friends for my fifth birthday and I will never forget it.
Did you ever see movies at the drive in? Do you remember any of them? Yes. I don't remember all of them but I do remember seeing HEAVEN CAN WAIT and LUCKY LADY at the drive in. That's it, for now.
As a child, what was your favourite movie? CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG, though I had a real fondness for DOCTOR DOLITTLE and BEDKNOBS AND BROOMSTICKS. When my dad took the whole family to THE SOUND OF MUSIC on the big screen, I became obsessed.
As a child, who was your favourite movie star? I think it was a combination of character and actor because I had not quite discerned the difference between the two. So I loved Sally Ann Howes/Truly Scrumptious and Angela Lansbury/Eglantine Price. When I discovered Gene Kelly, I was in trouble.
Do you own your favourite childhood movie on dvd? And do you actually watch it? All of them and, yes, I do.
When you reached your teens, what was the first movie you went to on a date? Sadly, as a teenager, all the movies I went to, I went to alone. Or maybe, not sadly--I always enjoyed myself. No one talked to me during the movie and no one to have to share the popcorn with.
As a teen, who was your favourite movie star? As a gay man, naturally, I was all over Liza Minnelli and Barbra Streisand. However, I began to appreciate acting as a general artform because of Warren Beatty, Goldie Hawn, Julie Christie, Faye Dunaway and Jon Voight.
As a teen, what was your favourite movie? I went through periods of time when I was obsessed with the movies HEAVEN CAN WAIT, NEW YORK NEW YORK, THEY ALL LAUGHED, WHY WOULD I LIE and A CHANGE OF SEASONS. I was also knocked for a loop by BUGSY MALONE because I wanted to be grown up at thirteen, too.
As a child or a teen was there a character in a movie you tried to be like? I wanted to fierce and fearless like Robert Shaw in SWASHBUCKLER. I also wanted to be creative and interesting like Treat Williams in WHY WOULD I LIE?--which would explain why, in my twenties, I had a problem with the truth.
What are a few of your favourite movies as an adult? In the early 80's I found myself completely captivated by AMADEUS and I remain, to this day. Over the years I have added, to the list, THE PHILADELPHIA STORY, THE LION IN WINTER, GARBO TALKS and MAURICE. For awhile I was obsessed with HOWARD'S END but it is on cable so much that it has lost some of its magic. Now I am still stuck on UNDER THE TUSCAN SUN and CLOSER.
Who are the actors whose movies you actively go to? Julia Roberts, Diane Lane, Judi Dench.
What are some of the stupidest movies you have ever seen? SAFE. EVENT HORIZON. BOXING HELENA. I didn't like the ending of THE BABY DANCE.
Who are some of the actors you would love to see retire? Jan Hooks. Martin Short. I know many people love them but I cannot stand that hammy BS. And I know he can act because of the movie CROSS MY HEART with Annette O'Toole. I would love to see him drop the routine and show his true talent. Like Jim Carrey. Can't stand his schtick but I KNOW he can really act. What a waste.
What do you snack on at the movies? Popcorn. Sometimes it is fun to put in some chocolate almonds. Yum. And ice cold water.
Did you ever, actually, go to the movies and make out? No. Movies are an art and (these days) too expensive to waste making out. Wanna make out? Go to the park.
Have you ever left a movie while it was still running? RAISING ARIZONA, BUCKAROO BONZAI. I tried to leave twice during THE PIANO but I was HELD DOWN by my companions.
Are there movies you have gone to see repeatedly? I think Brady and I saw MOULIN ROUGE 19 times. Pat and I go to the epics over and over cause you can only see them on the big screen for awhile and then it is all dvd. So--the LORD OF THE RINGS, HARRY POTTER and STAR WARS movies--also TITANIC had to be big screen.
What movie is currently showing or about to open that you are excited to see? SUPERMAN baby!!!!!!
BOOKS
Did your parents read to you as a child? I don't think so.
Once you were old enough, did you read on your own? Voraciously.
What books from your childhood left a lasting impression on you? By the fifth grade I was reading adult books....but the books that children read that moved me were THE LION THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE, THE LITTLE WHITE HORSE, THE TALKING PARCEL. I loved Beverly Cleary books--my favourite was ELLEN TIBBETS, which I still read from time to time. I also loved a book called UP A ROAD SLOWLY. Oh! Judy Blume--very fun. TALES OF A FOURTH GRADE NOTHING was important to me. Later in my school days I was obsessed with S.E. Hinton's THE OUTSIDERS and a liittle known book WHO STOLE SASSI MANOON? As an adult I sought out and ordered and purchased a copy of that last book, out of print. I was engrossed by the CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY books and the HALF MAGIC books. I read THE BORROWERS over and over.
Do you read, now? What genre of book do you read most often? I read but not as often as I would like. I enjoy fiction--sometimes pulpy stuff and sometimes the heady ones. I read biographies now and then but it has to be someone I really want to know about. And I read spiritual books.
Do you own books or go to the library? I buy.
Do you have any favourite authors? What about authors whose work changed your life? I love Sidney Sheldon. I started reading him when I was in 7th grade, much to the dismay of my teachers. I haunt the book stores, looking for the new Sidney Sheldon book and then I snatch it up. I have, deliberately, not read six of his books because one day he will be gone and there will be no new Sidney Sheldon books. Then, I will read those I haven't read and they will be my new Sidney Sheldon books. I love Oscar Wilde, Michael Cunningham, Truman Capote.
Name some books you could or have read repeatedly. The Little Girl Who Lives Down The Lane. Auntie Mame. Bloodline. If Tomorrow Comes. The Picture Of Dorian Gray. The Alchemist.
Name some books you started but could not finish. I stopped reading THE COLOR PURPLE when Nettie's letters replaced Celie's. I wasn't interested in Nettie.
What book are you reading right now? I am still working on JANE FONDA MY LIFE SO FAR. I just started reading AUNTIE MAME again. I am also reading A HOME AT THE END OF THE WORLD. When I read, I take notes in the margin.
TELEVISION
As a child, were you allowed to watch television? What did you like to watch? I was but we moved to Europe when I was ten. Before that, it was all cartoons. I loved SPEED RACER and THE WHACKY RACERS (Penelope Pittstop was cool). Once in Europe I looked for American movies on tv; that's where I saw my first Fred and Ginger flicks and MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS. During the summers, back in America, I watched whatever the going shows were, in rerun. BONANZA, GUNSMOKE, BRADY BUNCH, CHARLIES ANGELS.
As a child, were there any shows your parents actively discouraged you from watching? The three stooges. My mother hates the three stooges.
If you have/had children, are there any shows that you would actively discourage them from watching? The Three Stooges. I hate the Three Stooges.
Once you were old enough to watch something other than cartoons, what shows did you choose to watch? Ooops. See #1
As an adult, what have some of your favourite shows been? SISTERS (Loved that show), MOONLIGHTING, DESIGNING WOMEN, THE PRACTICE.
What shows do you watch, these days? PEOPLE'S COURT, SURVIVOR, IDOL, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE. BOSTON LEGAL, GREY'S ANATOMY, DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES.
Are there any shows you never missed an episode of, from the first to the last? SISTERS. There have been shows to which we have been devoted but I think SISTERS might be the only one we never missed an episode of. We missed MANY episodes of DESIGNING WOMEN, after Delta Burke left the show. We let a couple of QUEER AS FOLKS slip by us but we, now, have every season on dvd, so we have, now, seen them all. Ditto SEX AND THE CITY.
Any shows that, when they went off-air, you were bothered about it, in any way? I hate that they took COMMANDER IN CHIEF and EVERWOOD off the air. I actually cried a little when SEX AND THE CITY, QUEER AS FOLK and SISTERS went off the air. I was even a little misty when DAWSON'S CREEK and FELICITY went off the air, even though I had not stayed with them all the way. I taped the series finale of MOONLIGHTING and also of FRASIER but refused to watch them for years because that would mean it was really, truly, over.
Are there any shows you have bought or would buy on dvd? Many. We buy sci fi like DOCTOR WHO and STAR TREK and SPACE 1999 for Pat. We both love DICK VAN DYKE, QUEER AS FOLK and FRIENDS. Bought 'em. And a lot of others.
Name the best tv show theme songs. Mary Tyler Moore, hands down. After that, The Nanny, The Golden Girls, Friends. I like the theme to Cafe Americain.
MUSIC
If we opened your cd player or clicked on your ipod right now, what would we find you had recently been listening to? My ipod was shut off on JERSEY BOYS.
What genre of music do you, most often, listen to? I listen to it all, from classical (sometimes) to rock and roll (classic and some current), country, soundtracks, cast albums. Mostly, these days, I listen to dance music. It makes me happy and it makes me want to work out. Working out is my life.
What genre of music will you never, ever, ever listen to? There is this harshness to extreme acid rock that I cannot get behind. I also don't get rap. I have tried but it ain't happenin.
Will you tell us some of your favourite artists from the decades past? 40's, 50's, 60's etc up to present. The forties: I love the old club singers and bands. But my ipod has playlists for Nancy LaMott, Liza Minnelli, Judy Garland, Barbra Streisand, Deborah Cox, Nancy Wilson, Kristine W, CHER!! Boys singers? I have seen Liza Minnelli something like six times. I saw Bette Midler at Radio City but I have never seen Streisand live because I'll be damned if I will put that much money in her pocket, no matter how much I love her. I saw Kristine W. three times in one year. Recently saw Barbara Cook and Maria Friedman and they were both heavenly.
Are there any famous singers you would like to see perform live? Barbra Streisand but not for the dough she charges. I would love to see Nancy Wilson. Also, Reba McEntire. I'm sure there are others but that's what comes to mind.

Nine. Grand Hotel. Triumph of Love. The Fantasticks. A Chorus Line. The King and I. Gypsy! I love Follies and Night Music.
Name some stage musicals that have been translated to movie musicals well. Chicago. I liked both Gypsy(s) in spite of their flaws. Kiss Me Kate. West Side Story. The Sound of Music.
Now name the ones that didn't. Mame. A Chorus Line. Man of LaMancha.
Name the stupidest plays (musical or non) you have seen. The Green Bird. The CapeMan. I feel like I have blocked out the rest but those stay with me.
Do you remember the first play you ever saw? It was a high school production of The Pied Piper of Hamelin at my sister's high school when I was five or six.
Do you remember the last? We just saw The Drowsy Chaperone and it was heaven heaven heaven.
Name your favourite stage actors. Julie Harris and Rosemary Harris are divine. So are the Iveys--Judith and Dana, who are not related. There are Judi Dench and Donna Murphy and always Dennis O'Hare. Cherry Jones!! Carole Shelley!!
Do you dress up for the theater? Do you eat during the play? Sometimes I do dress, though these days I am opting for comfort often. I do NOT eat during the play!!!
Have you ever forgotten to turn your phone off and had it ring during the play? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
Do you have any thrilling moments from the theater that remain in your memory? Bernadette Peters in GYPSY from the second row. It was mind altering theater.
