About Me

MyGen Profile Generator
Ryan Robinson is a session guitarist based in Oxford, UK, known mainly for his work with the bands Electrichead and Off The Record, as well as for his own solo work.
His playing spans a wide variety of genres including rock, funk, blues, jazz, world, ambient, classical, and many more. He is available for various types of session work, both live and recorded, always working with professionalism and enthusiasm.
It wasn't until fairly late in his life, at age eleven, that Ryan developed a serious interest in music; inspired by attending Bon Jovi's final concert at the original Wembley stadium in June 2000. After convincing his parents that his interest was serious, Ryan received his first electric guitar for Christmas of the same year.
After taking a number of guitar lessons it was apparent that Ryan's strengths were in working out music by ear, and so he continued his studies self-taught. Much of his teenage years were spent working out the songs of his favourite bands, paying meticulous attention to replicating tone and technique. He also soon began writing his own material, forming and playing with the band ImiJ (later Lucid Dream).
After completing secondary school education in 2005, Ryan studied the BTEC National Diploma in Music at Oxford College of Further Education. It was there that he developed a large interest in music theory, particularly in that of jazz music. It was also during his time there that Ryan played with the metal band Cursed in Captivity, writing and performing much of his own material with the band. Ryan completed the course in the summer of 2007, becoming the first student to do so awarded a triple distinction grade.
Immediately after completing the course, Ryan was approached to join local rock covers outfit Electrichead, an offer which he accepted with no hesitation. The band are well known for their onstage appearence; all members wearing UV face and body paint, as well as for their energetic live performances. Ryan soon made a name for himself as a versatile guitarist on the local music scene, earning opportunities to play with other bands, standing in for other guitarists, and gaining much live playing experience as a session player.
Currently, Ryan is studying the BMus (Hons) Degree at Guitar-X in London, but continues to live in Oxford, gigging regularly with Electrichead and Off The Record. He also records original material, both as a solo artist and with Silence and Echoes, as well as a session player for both local producers and musicians.

”Musicians are often referred to as ‘artists’, but artists are few. Ryan is much more than a guitarist, he is an artist.

Ryan’s ability is outstanding and this allows him to effortlessly focus on what really matters in a band. . . making great music as a team.

As a drummer, I have especially enjoyed working with Ryan as his timing and grooves are always snappy and accurate. Guitarists sometimes isolate themselves from the rhythm section, but Ryan is always fully aware of the whole. He locks in and flows naturally with the dynamics, then taking the lead, launches into “wow, how’s he doing that?!” territory.

As a recording engineer, I appreciate Ryan’s professionalism, maturity and intelligence. His technique is constantly pushing new limits and he knows how to get the best out of his gear. There are no problems, issues or ego with Ryan. He is confident yet humble and so easy to get along with.”
