7L & Esoteric formed in 1992 when Esoteric, the emcee of the group, deejayed a Hip Hop show at a college radio station north of Boston. 7L, a DJ / producer who listened to the show contacted Esoteric in interest of collaborating. Through the duo’s understanding of the often under-appreciated golden age of Hip Hop (1985-89), a bond was formed. Their first release, under the name God Complex, was named "one of the most innovative records of 1996" in CMJ. Receiving tremendous response from NY, LA, Canada, and Europe, God Complex's label, Brick Records, moved onward, releasing the Rebel Alliance LP, a compilation of Boston talent that debuted the duo as 7L & Esoteric.Soon after this was released, a 7L & Esoteric 12" came out with updated versions of their Rebel Alliance songs "Protocol" and "Be Alert.” "Be Alert" was immediately deemed an underground classic nationwide due to it's innovative sampling of the 80's cartoon "Transfo rmers," and brought them to New York’s Stretch & Bobbito radio show. 7L & Esoteric followed that up in 1998 with the chart topping "Def Rhymes" peaking at ..1 in both Gavin and Hits. The single made quite an impact, getting press in the Source and turning up on Sway & Tech’s Wake Up Show weekly, resulting in Eminem and Jay-Z rocking lyrics over the tracks.

Alaska, The 49th state has long been slept on in the hip hop game. Only recently have the frosty streets of Anchorage been recognized for their rugged, grimy, and ultimately promising hip hop flavor. Alkota, armed with an MPC 2000XL and an arsenal of vinyl brings a unique flavor of bangers to the production table. The self titled “track terrorist” has spent the long and harsh Alaskan winters chopping, flipping, arranging, and recording head banging tracks. Alkota has produced for the likes of Alaska’s premiere superstar label, Arctic Flow Records, NYC’s Yeshua Da Poed, Big Lo, K-Otic Ent., Bekay, and a range of other talented independent artists. Alkota is slowly gaining recognition among the masses of self-proclaimed producers/beat makers in the industry. In his infancy as a producer, Alkota is destined and determined to become a major player in the hip hop game. Watch out for Alkota’s name appearing on a variety of projects including Akream’s “Digital Penetration”. Don’t Sleep!

I was born in Michigan; I later moved to North Carolina with my family, this is when my addiction to hip hop really got bad. I ended up leaving high school to record, travel and play shows. "That's when I recorded with a live band". But even before all that I was recording with just turntables and a cd burner. I wasn't even making beats back then I was only writing and recording to what ever 12'' instrumentals I could get. In 2001 I moved down south to Wilmington NC. You could find me out there at any given time battling kids at party's or clubs or out side of clubs where ever. I recorded a lot of shit down there that will never get herd. Needless to say all my work fell into the wrong hands and nothing ever developed. Fast forward to the summer of 2002, I moved back home to OBX NC, this is when I really started making beats and decided that nobody but my self can make it happen. I had to stop relying on other people to make my passion come alive. I was still recording around the way were ever I could. You know here and there type of spots. This was my life for the past few years. It wasn't until summer of 05 that I linked back up with Dhil. He was one of the first dudes I started writing and recording with a long time ago. It was only right that we formed are own movement. We built are own studio, I made all the beats, and we recorded when ever we wanted, not only that but we did it how we always pictured it. Witch brings us up to date in 2006. We officially are finishing are album titled LESS LIKE YOU. Recorded and produced by us.A very well thought out and self proclaimed album that features guest appearances byMainflow, Agallah the don bishop from purple city and kinetic from killarmy. We were also hit with tracks by good friend's pen pointz and lil Italy. For me this music shit is just what I do. Rather I am getting paid or not I will always write rhymes and make beats that's just me "habitat".

Used to mc now he only breaks and makes beats. Been into rap and hip-hop since '88. Came into the culture through radio shows and got a special love for Golden Era rap late 80s to early-mid 90s. Vinyl collector, hip-hop connaisseur, all round music lover. Has written articles for British magazine The Downlow and US site 88hiphop.com. Used to co-host a rap radio show between 1999 and 2001 on two different stations in the Copenhagen area. Through his Lone Catalysts partner Jermaine Sanders, who he met through Buka, he met MOOD, The Five Deez, and Hi-Tek. With Five Deez member Fat Jon, J Rawls is one half of the group 3582. Through MOOD, J Rawls was introduced to Talib Kweli, and as all true heads have the Black Star album in their collection, you know J Rawls was the mastermind to the beat behind "Brown Skin Lady". Some of the artists J Rawls has worked with include Masta Ace, The Beastie Boys, Wordsworth, Jonell, us3, and Venus Malone. This is just a beginning to the vast amounts of albums, singles, collabos, and guest appearances that J Rawls is to be credited with. When his biography comes out in novel form, they will all be listed!

Play Havoc’s Ill Advice (Vice) has been writing rhymes with his group member Hi Jinks for years, but it was only when the need for quality, hiphop beats arised when Vice decided to try his hand at beatmaking. With nothing but a cheap Korg sampler, Vice began crafting his style.By drawing influences from hiphop greats such as DJ Premier, Pete Rock, and DJ Hi-Tek, Ill Advice learned to use sampling as an art form and began to receive notice from local affiliates and emcees. He soon got an MPC2000 and has used the drum machine ever since to create colorful, hard-hitting beats for Play Havoc as well as some of Ohio’s finest. With the upcoming release of Play Hav’s LP,“All Things Due,” Vice looks to branch out and work with a variety of hiphop artists. With hundreds of beats in the stash, Vice has more than enough racket to offer the masses.

Born and raised on the flat plains of Regina, Saskatchewan- amongst the country, punk and rock ‘n’ roll- Pen Pointz discovered hip-hop at an early age. Out of fear that his mom and dad would not approve of his newfound musical tastes, he often hid his tapes under his bed and would only play them when the folks had a night out, or in his walkman on the way to school. Once high school began he found himself longing for more elaborate and intelligent forms of hip-hop- enter Mos Def and Talib Kweli as Blackstar. This is the album that had Pen Pointz longing to do more than just support these artists, he wanted to be a part of the hip-hop movement. He began writing on his own, practicing his flow and freestyling whenever he was given the chance. After a few solid years of writing, recording and performing as an MC, in 2004 Pen Pointz decided to take a shot at making his own beats. Finding that he had an ear for sampling, a hungry appetite for banging drums and thick bass lines, Pen Pointz decided to devote all of his free time and energy to producing. He is looking forward to a very busy 2006 and is ecstatic at the chance to work with some of his favorite artists such as C-Rayz Walz, The Gumshoe Strut, Atlas Da African and Main Flow.

Born together with Hip Hop movement, R.E.D.A. (Rythme Elémentaire d’une Distortion Analogique) has grown by hearing reggae and disco loved by the parents and principally their neighbors on 45 rpm.R.E.D.A., loving music very early, discovered conventional rap through mythic groups as Run-DMC, Public Enemy, Eric B. & Rakim etc…and is collecting a large number of tapes via the local mediathec through which he is developing his own musical vision of hip hop apart from the actors of this art and their puerile rivalry.R.E.D.A. was tired of this mediocrity and apathy and decided to attack and ’’…give to the belgian hip hop a musical radiance which it should ever have kept’’. Hot supporter of the integrity and preservation of the hip hop culture, he wants to play a concrete role in the renewal of the hip hop music at a European level and set up a deontology code. His first album, called "Gemini" is the warranty of this will.
