Sounds Like: CD REVIEW FROM OREGON MUSIC GUIDE, Volume III, Number 6----
cd; "Runnin' From The Cops"----Who knew that the Bend scene could produce such hardcore music? This is an album of pure punkrock ferocity in the vein of Exploited , GBH, and early Total Chaos. Short blistering songs that are minimally produced and full of old school fury. Out of 18 tracks, only 3 clock more than 3 minutes.
This is an ass kicking record and any punk rock purist will be right at home with it. Anti-government and anti-cops but pro-drink, drugs and everything else thats bad. The band writes songs of being abducted by aliens, monsters attacking, war, hate and paranoia, among other things. All recorded with mosh-friendly urgency.
It is also apparent this band has done it's time in the club scene, as the music is played quite well, albeit quite nasty and very fast. The guitars are almost all down picked, with some chugging from time to time, the bassist keeps up and holds his own immpressively. The vocals are raw and dirty, just like real punk rock is supposed to be. And, the drummer's tornadic and frantic bashing makes the album a real blood-pumper. He even throws is some double bass kicking for good measure.
As with most hardcore punk that is played fast, it's hard to understand the lyrics. Luckily, they are printed in the booklet and are definately worth the read, as many are very tongue-and cheeck and quite varied in content. Also, when bands play this fast, the record become a blur of punk rock rage. But this is exactly the point. The disc will be over before the listener even knows it, demanding repeat listens and another beer.
The Confederats are a refreshing band for this reviewer to hear. Especially in this day and age where many bands look the punk rock part but, in effect , are generic, homogenized, pre-packaged boy bands.
