Ma People
An art exibit by Anna Soltys. There are feelings we experience in life so beautiful, that the idea of letting those experiences go without somehow capturing their essence pushes me to work. The surface is the first order of business when creating a new piece of work. Canvas is most commonly found around my studio, but not exclusively. Once a shape and size has been determined I will proceed with acrylics to layout a back ground, and the rest of the piece starts coming to life from there. There are shapes that I have in mind when I start a piece. Shapes and feelings . Sometimes I sketch them out, but most of the time I let the idea just develop with me as I work. With time everything becomes clear. I could say that about a lot of things.I’m very much inspired by surfaces. While I do find myself working on traditional canvas often, I also work on found wood, cutting boards, chair backs, cast of body parts, and pretty much anything that evokes my drive for creating imagery. I never feel like I’ve found objects that I’ve used as surfaces but rather they find me, and am thankful for their inspiration. The medium of choice for me currently is acrylic and oil paints, along with magazines and photographs for collage work. These mediums allow me to work from home easily, but I have found and still find great inspiration in ceramics, metal, and wood.
