About Me

Passion; It's what defines an artist...Drumming is Buddy Gibbons' passion. From an early age, Buddy's dedication to music would define who he is. Throughout his formative years, his friends would joke with Buddy about practicing "all the time". Buddy remembers it very differently...He played because he was driven to play. That drive paid off early for Buddy when he won the prestigious John Philip Sousa Award for Musical Excellence. While in college, Buddy's rudimental expertise didn't go unnoticed. He was chosen as the section leader for the University of Alabama's Million Dollar Band in his first year. Only two years later, while still an Undergraduate, Gibbons was asked to join the staff as Snare drum Instructor, an honor that had never been give to someone who hadn't yet graduated. It was during this time that the drumset bug bit Buddy. He immersed himself in the drumming of Vinnie Colaiuta, Omar Hakim, John Robinson, Liberty DeVitto, Steve Gadd, Jeff porcaro, Steve Smith and countless other influential drummers. Gibbons quickly established his unique voice on the drums by incorporating these influences with his own rudimental musical background. Now a well-respected professional, Buddy's aggressive and powerful style, balanced with a keen sense of 'what's right for the song', has kept him in demand. He has worked with a long list of artists, including world renowned guitarist Stan Lassiter, and pop sensation Shiloh. And through it all, Gibbons' passion has never faltered. His love of his instrument still shines through. In the words of one audience member, "He never stopped smiling while he played".
