About Me
My name is Dosia, pronounced ['do-shia]. I am a music composer, piano and flute player, singer, song writer, arranger and a graphic artist. Building on classical training, I find inspiration in film, electronica, New Age music, as well as traditional Christian hymnody.
I would like to meet other musicians, artists, poets, thinkers, colleagues and collaborators. Thank you for visiting my page.
Dosia McKay Bio
My musical path began in early childhood or perhaps even before birth. My grandfather was an organist, choir and band director and a music teacher before and after the Second World War in Poland. My grandmother, although without formal training, often astonished her fellow church members with her pure soprano. On the other side of the family tree, my paternal grandfather was a piano tuner.
My earliest memories connected with music are those of singing rounds with my mother and harmonizing to Christmas carols. My first musical instrument was a baby aluminum xylophone which experienced a great deal of ware and tare from the constant playing of all the popular melodies heard on the radio and TV.
When I outgrew the xylophone, I dreamed of another instrument. I begged and pleaded with my parents to buy me a piano, but they were unable to fulfill my dream. Harsh realities of communist Poland made basic survival the first priority and left little room for extravagant wishes.
At the age of nine I enrolled at the local music school where I first studied classical guitar and eventually settled on flute and piano. I continued my music education at the State School of Music and General Education in Gdansk, majoring in flute performance.
In 1991 I came to California to join a music group called the Celebrant Singers with whom I traveled extensively throughout the States, Canada, Mexico, Cuba, and western Europe. When my tenure ended, I settled permanently in the States.
In recent years, I have begun to rediscover my musical calling in a new light while returning to my first love: piano and singing. I also find new inspiration in composing music and songwriting. I spend (way too) much of my time in my music studio composing, arranging and producing original material.
Although I am building on the foundation of my classical training, I am pursuing a new musical language. I draw inspiration from film music, electronica, celtic and New Age music, as well as traditional Christian hymnody.

Sounds Like: You tell me...

A few curious facts about me::

I can’t live my life without Static Guard. I once taught English to German natives who spoke Russian. I don’t like to talk on the phone and I don't have a cell phone. I know my math. I made A in calculus in college. My favorite movie of all times is Matrix, but only the 1st one. No. 2 and 3 were a waste of time. I have been to most US states and many European countries. I don't drink soft drinks. Ever. I drink hot green tea, even in the middle of the summer. When I moved to the US I had $200 to my name. I'm not afraid to read geeky manuals written by geeky guys. My mother always told me: "Everything is easy. You just need to know how to do it". I'm a PC girl, but I do have some MAC friends.

A few of my scattered thoughts::

Too many people talk too much and only a few know how to truly listen. God is not a product of my imagination. I am a product of His imagination.

I think I write music because I am curious. To create a new piece of music out of silence and darkness, to observe how it takes shape and becomes a living and hopefully a beautiful entity is exhilarat...

Creative Process

My well educated, well traveled, and well read friend asked me once about the creative process of music composition: "So you just sit at the piano and kind of make it up as you go?" YES!

The Bleak House

Is anyone watching the Bleak House by Charles Dickens on the Masterpiece Theater series on PBS? I love the movie, but I am absolutely mesmerized by the music. It was written by John Lunn, a Scotsman....
