We reserve our top friends for the people and establishments that we think really add to the culture in Columbia, S.C. These are the type of folks that help make a real locally owned Alternative Weekly possible. Sure they may disagree with an opinion one of our writers has at one time, but they understand the end result in issues being raised and resolved. These are the kind of progressive individuals and places that appreciate the First Amendment and what it means to have a local newspaper willing to print all sides to an issue even if it means occasionally offending a potential advertiser. City Paper can’t thank them enough for being so supportive of independent thinking, and we thank them for not falling for the bland approach of constantly sucking up for advertising dollars. They understand that isn’t the point of a newspaper. They also understand as independent businesses that shopping locally puts three times the dollars into Columbia's economy. We are sure they make an effort to use local vendors when they can, and we urge you to return the favor.
