Arcane, born Matthew Santiago, is an artist to rival past hip hop artists. Growing up his home was filled with jazz, salsa and funk giving him a solid musical foundation. Arcane has had the opportunity to be surrounded by the great innovators of past generation’s music. His grandfather played with the legendary Tito Puente, while his uncle played bass with Bootsy Collins and Rick James. While Arcane was surrounded by various music genres, he needed an outlet to release the built up stress of watching his cancer-stricken mother care for her family without complaint. He took to writing poetry as a way to vent his emotions and clear his mind. Arcane’s poetry took on more of a musical rhythm during the reign of gritty storytelling hip hop artists such as the Wu-Tang Clan and Nas.Early 2000, gave Arcane is chance to let others know what he was feeling. He was given a chance to perform in front of a small, but intimate crowd. The beat was smooth and inviting, allowing the crowd to enjoy the sound; as he began to go into his lyrics, the crowd went wild. The approving shouts of the crowd took hold of his soul and Arcane added “Lyricist” to his resume. His lyrics are real life and the crowd identified with what he said while grooving to the beats. Music is a strong part of his family’s legacy and embracing diversity and creativity makes Arcane essential to the new level of Hip Hop.The influences of what the artist, Arcane, has become covers the entire genre of hip hop. Support from local artist, Won delek gives Arcane motivation and camaraderie. From the R & B sounds of Donnell Jones and D’Angelo to Hip Hop Mainstream such as UGK, Nas, Big Pun, and Ludacris to the Underground heroes such as Az, Jedi Mind Tricks, NonPhixion and Z-Ro to the Greats such as Tito Puente and Eddie Palmeri, Arcane has the knowledge and foundation that is lacking in today’s music.His new single,”Hip Hops Back” describes Arcane’s respect for the real essence of hip hop. Arcane is not only an artist and performer, but a fan of hip hop.
