Profile GeneratorDetar X, born David Lawrence on January 31st 1986 is a refreshing and unique Hip Hop MC/ Songwriter hailing from Tottenham, North London.Detar began writing his own lyrics and songs at 15, during his school days he would demonstrate his skills and laid back flow to his peers in the playground. Whilst becoming a rapper was a dream and an aspiration for many of the youth, rapping was just a mere hobby. At the age of 16 X penned a powerful song entitled ‘Put Tha Gat Down’, a song that illustrates the realities of gun violence especially within the Black community. A friend who attended the same 6th Form College organised a talent show and asked him to perform the track. At first Detar was hesitant because he hadn’t performed by himself to an audience before but that fact was soon forgotten and he went on to win the contest earning him a recording session.In 2005 he joined his long time friend David Yeboah’s production company Dirty D ProdUKtionz, now better known as Gifted Soundz Entertainment. The company aimed to show the country and the world real UK music and Detar was and still is the artist to lead that mission in particular. During his time at Gifted Soundz Detar has blossomed as an artist and as a writer and has entertained crowds from tens to thousands throughout the capital.
Whether it be clubs in the West End or Summer Carnivals Detar X continues to entertain and show his true potential. He has performed at some high profile events such as the Haringey Building Safer Communities Together Awards at Alexandra Palace to an audience that included Sir Trevor McDonald who was hosting as well as numerous MP’s and The Chief Commissioners of The Metropolitan Police and The London Fire Brigade. He has written lyrics for other artists and has worked on an animated project for the legendary Jazz musician Courtney Pine that was screened at the 2005 London Jazz Festival.Detar X has featured in newspapers The Voice, New Nation, The Tottenham and Wood Green Journal and more recently The Independent. He is also a member of the 2006 Philip Lawrence Award group Let’s Be Positive – a group that produce musical albums and distribute them freely in the United Kingdom and Mainland Europe in order to promote a positive message.Detar is currently in the process of recording a promotional cd and his highly anticipated debut album as well participating in numerous projects.
