About Me

In 1985, a nice brew started to blend in Mexico City that would eventually bring us Moenia, perhaps one of the most sensational Spanish Modern Rock Electronica bands of our times. The band first started as a group of secondary school friends who called themselves "5Mentarios." These young men found influences from other popular Spanish and English groups of the time like Nacha Pop, The Cure, Duncan Dhu, Hombres G, The Smiths, Radio Futura, U2, Soda Stereo, and even Timbiriche 7. But the most evident influence on the band was Depeche Mode, their personal favorite. After a few years, the band underwent a metamorphosis. By December of 1996, the group had changed its name to Moenia and released a self-titled album. This disc produced several international hits, including the songs, "No Puedo Estar Sin T" and "Djame Entrar."At the end of 1998, lead singer Juan Carlos Lozano decided to leave Moenia to pursue other projects. It was then that band member Alfonso Pichardo was asked to fill Juan Carlos' shoes and be the lead vocalist. The very next year, the boys released,"Adicin," spawning the megahit, "Manto Estelar" and "Estabas Ahi."Stereo Hits is by far Moenia's highest-selling album to date. It is a series of successful 80s and 90s Latin pop/rock and ballad hit covers such as "En Algun Lugar" by Duncan Dhu, "Tren Al Sur" by Los Prisioneros, "Beber de Tu Sangre" by Los Amantes de Lola, "Mátenme Porque Me Muero" by Caifanes and "Ni Tu Ni Nadie" by Alaska y Dinarama. The album was originally intended to serve as a stopgap to keep fans happy while the group worked on their next album, but became so popular that it was soon followed by a tour, which in turn was followed by an album of its own in 2005, HitsLive.During 2006 Moenia released a new album, named "Solar", which follows a more 1980s electropop style, including more electric guitar sounds. MOENIA RECEIVES A GOLDEN RECORD FOR "HITSLIVE"Mexico, D.F. - March 30, 2006. - Moenia consolidate themselves as the most important elecronic band in Mexico and their most recent production serves as proof."Hitslive," the 2-CD album which compiles their best hits and also contains a DVD, was recorded live during their concert at the Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City and is now received a Golden Record for more than 50,000 copies sold in Mexico. As part of their "Hitslive" tour, Moenia has visited various countries in Latin America, such as Colmbia (in various occasions), Ecuador (various cities), Costa Rica, Panama, and Guatemala, as well as the United States, where they offered concerts in various cities, such as Brownsville, Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, San Diego, Anaheim, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Jose, among others, as well as all of Mexico.Beginning April, Alfonso Pichardo, Alejandro "Midi" Ortega, and Jorge Soto will concentrate on the preparation of what will be their next studio album with new songs which we will know more of the second semester of 2006...This profile was edited with Thomas' myspace editor™ V2.5 ..

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: moenia.com
Band Members: The Latin techno-pop group Moenia comprised vocalist Alfonso Pichardo "Poncho", keyboardist Jorge Soto and keyboardist/programmer Alejandro "Midi! Hayashida" Ortega Zenteno.
Influences: With a sound that was highly derivative of late '80s/early '90s dance-pop groups like New Order and Depeche Mode, Moenia didn't break any new ground. However, the fact that this band sprung fully formed from Mexico City, singing in Spanish, makes it a little more interesting.
Sounds Like: Depeche Mode in Spanish..
