For whatever reason, I am fascinated by cities. Their buildings, structure and design. Their function, symbolism and image. The highways; the subways; the streets and the parks. The people that inhabit them. Even the suburbs have their appeal. The Incredibles captured the urban and suburban mystique beautifully. One of my favourite architectural styles is Streamline Moderne – a post Art Deco building form which integrated chrome, neon and stainless steel in clean, aerodynamic lines, evoking progress and industry. Think the quintessential factory.I also love the 50’s – not the values, but the aesthetic: the clothes, the hair, some of the music, the art, the furniture, the cars and diners and drive-thrus. It’s all brilliant. People had such enviable style, taste and sex appeal. Elegant vanity I suppose.That’s about it. I’m pretty two-dimensional.
