About Me

In 1998 when I took my first job in the restaurant industry, it was here at The Spot. I knew immediately, this is what I wanted to do. College at L.S.U. was great but, I really looked forward to weekends and holidays so I could come home and work. I loved making people happy then as much as I do today. In May 2002 at the age of 22 and finished with college, the incredible opportunity of purchasing The Spot was reality. We focus on the same basic principals today that I believe make any business successful. Keep it simple! We operate a clean restaurant, we serve our hot food hot and our cold food cold, and most importantly we find our ultimate success in making our guests smile. We have a growing team of outstanding employees so it's only fair to use "our" and "we" because without them none of this would be possible. This page is a great mix of my personal life as well as promotion of The Spot, hope you enjoy what you see and visit me on your next trip to beautiful Galveston Island. My Interests

In 1998 here lay a vacant lot and there lay three vacant houses and herein lay a great idea. The land was prime yet undeveloped and the houses were set to be demolished so the local community college could expand their parking lot. Our founders set out to save these houses by picking them up, bringing them here, and building a restaurant incorporating them. After many months of hard work their dreams became reality and The Spot was born May 1998. It was originally named The Village at Mile Zero hence the name written on the curb as you enter the parking lot through our main entrance. The story is that if you are to measure from the curb to the first mile marker on Interstate 45, this is exactly one mile. Therefore, we are mile zero. Many say this is the end, however we like to think of it as the beginning. We changed our name to The Spot prior to opening yet after the work on the curb had been completed. In May 2002, The Spot was purchased by local resident and B.O.I. (Born on Island) Dennis Byrd. This was his first and only job in the restaurant business and he began here when we originally opened. He worked his way up from cashier to cook, dishwasher to delivery boy, learned the ropes of the restaurant business and accomplished his dream of opening his own restaurant by purchasing the only restaurant he ever worked in. You’ll still see him here today taking your order, cooking your food, cleaning tables or giving stuffed animals to crying babies. Please relax, enjoy the wonderful view, excellent food and allow us to impress you.

I'd like to meet:

Meet me player! Located at 32nd and Seawall, The Spot features gourmet hamburgers, fresh seafood, ice cream, arcade and Tiki Bar. All overlooking the beautiful Gulf of Mexico. Meet me during Happy Hour (after a few drinks I get better looking) Monday - Friday 3-7. Nobody does outdoor dining bigger or better, check us out and you'll understand why we're Island Famous.

Music:

We're not just burgers player. Seafood, salads, homemade desserts, 18 flavors of ice cream, arcade for the kids, and Tiki Bar for the adults. The Spot is the premier venue on Galveston Island. We do music at it's best too. From solid gold oldies, to the sounds of the Carribean, to classic rock and roll. Oh yea don't forget we are the only place to catch all the games. With 12 T.V.s and surround sound during the games, a great time is guaranteed!

Movies:

Television:

Yep we got 'em, 12 to be exact with more on the way. The only establishment on Galveston Island offering t.v.'s on the patio! The Spot is outdoor dining at its best! Shaded dining, t.v.'s, beautiful ocean views and our VIP second floor outdoor Tiki Hut sets us a cut above the competition. Day after day proving to be "The Spot" to be while on Galveston Island.

Books:

Hold the book deals. Call me in 10 years and I'll tell you how I worked my way up from busboy to dishwasher, cook, cashier, manager, and bought it at the age of 22. By that time I'll have The Spot concept in a town near you and you can pay me more money to put the face of success on the cover of a book.

Heroes:

The guy who invented the spatula is a genius. How else could I flip burgers? Oh yea, I also attribute much of my success to the guy who invented the beer opener. The incredible service, unbelievable views, and phenominal concept, I'd like to thank myself!
