THE BOXER

FIGHT ONE
Jules Blackwell, 124 3/4 lbs of Phoenixville, Pa scored a second round stoppage over Sylvester Beard, 123 1/2 lbs of Danville, Virginia in a scheduled four round Featherweight bout. The end came at 1:16 of the second round as Blackwell landed hard combinations that forced referee Eddie Cotton to stop the boutBlackwell wins his debut. Beard is 0-2.
Jules Blackwell vs. Ernest Scott Phoneixville, PA Virginia 1-0 (1 KO) 0-3
In the curtain jerker, newcomer Jules Blackwell took an easy decision against Ernest "Old School" Blackwell. There were some exciting moments, particularly in the second round when the southpaw Blackwell threw a left down the pipe that landed flush on the nose. Scott hit the deck but did get back to his feet. Blackwell used a right jab followed by a straight left for the majority of the fight and at times would jump inside to fight at close quarters. The fight went to the cards and they all read 40 - 35 for Blackwell who left the ring to applause. Scott on the other hand left the ring to fans screaming, "Hang em up Old School!"
Winner - Jules Blackwell 2-0 (1 KO)
FIGHT THREE
Jules Blackwell 2-0(1 KO) vs. Marsy Buggs 0-1-1
Blackwell crusied to an easy 4 rnd decesion over Buggs
Blackwell 3-0 Buggs0-2-1
FIGHT FOUR
Undefeated Phoenixville PA featherweight Jules Blackwell showed marked improvement in scoring a decisive second round TKO over winless Earnest Scott (0-7) in a rematch of a bout that went the distance just last September. Blackwell (4-0, 2 KO's) pushed Scott of Portsmouth, VA into the ropes early in round one with long jabs and then sent him to the canvas with a three-punch combination, which was ended by crisp overhand right. Scott was able to get to his feet and recovered to end the round. Blackwell took up where he left off in round two, with crisp combinations that backed his opponent into the corner. Blackwell landed what appeared to be a punch on the beltline of Scott in the corner. Referee Blair Talmadge separated the fighters, but Blackwell immediately unleashed a deadly four-punch combination that snapped back the head of Scott, while still in the corner rendering him defenseless, which forced Referee Blair Talmadge to call a halt to the bout at 1:05 of round 2.
"It feels great to get the knockout tonight" said and elated Blackwell afterward. "We have been working hard on my power and speed in training. Everything just came together today."
Fight 5
Featherweight Jules Blackwell (5-0, 2 KOs) of Phoenixville, PA overcame seven months of ring rust in capturing a workmanlike four round unanimous decision over crafty Bronx, New York native, Joseph Rosa (1-1-1). Blackwell controlled the ring throughout with combinations behind his long right jabs to capture every round, but just couldn't land any heavy shots on the slick Rosa who just didn't have enough firepower to keep him off. All three judges scored the bout 40-36 in favor of Blackwell."A lot of it was ring rust, as I haven't fought since February because of fight fallouts' said Blackwell afterwards on his performance. " From time to time I was able to get my range right and hit him when I wanted to, but I overshot my jab a lot. I have sparred for several months in the gym, but you just can't replace actual fight experience.
FIGHT 6 (THIS ONE WAS TUFF!!!)
Jules Blackwell, another local prospect, had a tough time with fellow southpaw Arthur Parker, before prevailing by majority decision.Blackwell, 123, Phoenixville PA, used his longer arms to keep the shorter Parker, 123, Lancaster PA at bay, but had problems landing punches against Parker’s awkward defensive style. Unfortunately for Parker, his skills in offense were not on par with his defensive skills which let Blackwell control the pace and tempo over the course of the bout.At the end, Blackwell was awarded a majority decision with two judges scoring him the victor by the counts of 40-36 and 39-37, while the third judge turned in a curious 38-38 score.Blackwell also keeps his undefeated record intact and is now 6-0 (2) while Parker falls to 1-4 (1).
