Yeah, I rode that mechanical bull...what are ya gonna do about it?

About Me

I have just relocated to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, where I'm taking a year away from my career as a teacher in order to explore some other interests, make time for my hobbies, and hit the beach. I have lived overseas for most of the past four years, bartending in Ireland and teaching in England, Taiwan, and most recently, Colombia, South America. I enjoy connecting with various cultures and people all over the world, and travel keeps my life interesting and far from "routine". I do intend to settle down--eventually--but for now, I enjoy getting out and seeing, doing, exploring, and just living life to the fullest wherever I happen to be at that moment.

My Interests

Pimp-My-Profile.com
Travel is one of the things that has come to define my personality and my way of viewing life. Some interests include rock climbing, scuba diving and hiking...basically anything that involves being active in the outdoors with the potential for injury and the guarantee for adventure. I love reading, scrapbooking, photography, all things Ireland-related, and engaging in good conversations, especially with people of different cultures. I have many interests and am acquiring new hobbies all the time!

I'd like to meet:

People who are willing to live life "outside the box"...people who aren't afraid of change, the unknown, differences...extreme sports lovers, adrenaline-seekers, outdoorsy-types, who are willing to reach far beyond comfort zones for a taste of adventure and the ability to see life from a different perspective.

Music:

My iPod is stocked with everything from Metallica, Jimmy Buffet and Travis Tritt to The Police, Nora Jones and Classic Bagpipes. I love music in general, regardless of genre, but when it's time for karaoke, it's always Country! What I listen to at any given time is based on my mood or what I haven't heard in a while. I've recently become a huge fan of latin music...everything from reggeton to salsa to vallenato.

Movies:

I love to laugh, so any movie that can make me laugh is a good one. I firmly believe that THE funniest movie ever made is Airplane...every time I see it, I laugh harder than each time before.

Television:

Nope...I have way too many other, cooler things to do with my life.

Books:

Travel books, especially narratives...I'm a big fan of Bill Bryson. Lonely Planet and other guide books, maps/atlases (geography dork), language-learning books, how-to guides.

Heroes:

Anyone who can use the power of their minds and hearts to overcome obstacles in life and become better than they--and others--expected. Parents who work to show their children LOVE, not just material possessions. Those who work to help others out of sheer will to improve the condition of the world. Military members and their families, who so selflessly put them on planes and send them to serve.Colombia es Passion

Time to leave the tropics...

After nearly two years in Colombia, and the year prior to that in Taiwan, one would think that I've become used to life in the tropics.  And for the most part, I have.  The heat and humidity...

Hospitals on Foreign Shores

The first time I was in a hospital, like most people, was the day I was born.  People don't generally go back very often thereafter, if they're lucky.  Well, as a child, I had several minor ...
