Larks' Tongues in Aspic

I am here for Friends

About Me

My name's Zakk. Yes, I took the name from Zakk Wylde. But my first name is Zachary and his birth name is Jeffrey, I think I have more rights to the name than he does. :P
Anyhoo, I live in the grim and frostbitten land of Maine, United States. Up here the winters are brutal, and when it gets so cold that Hell itself freezes over, we'll be up here in our flannel pajamas yelling to the rest of the country, 'Cold enough for ya?!'
I'm a sensible guy. I like thinking, but I also like to keep things simple. I'm like a sponge for information; if it's something that interests me, I'm quick to pick it up. That's a double-edged sword, unfortunately, considering that I have difficulty absorbing information that I have no interest in. If I do, however, pick up a piece of info about something that doesn't interest me, chances are I'll forget it as quickly as I picked it up.
I'd like to say that my taste of music is defined, but still growing. I'm partial to the genres of Progressive Rock and Progressive Metal, but I try to give things a chance, so I'm pretty much open to anything, as long as I think it's good.
Not only is my taste in music growing, but my collection is, as well. At the moment, I can safely say I have over 1,000 total recordings spanning CDs, Cassettes, and Vinyl that I have in my collection. All this in a little over four years' time. One of my goals is to someday have an entire room that is wall-to-wall with records and CDs. Long after CDs have become obsolete and the mp3 age has fully kicked in, I will have amassed a couple thousand of each; records, cassettes, and CDs.
Collecting is a big hobby of mine, specifically old record. However, I do have a passion for anything 30 years old or older. I'm fortunate to say I have three vintage band posters; two are 1970 Chicago posters, and one is a 1977 Styx poster. I also hope to acquire more vintage posters in the future.
So, if you have a question, comment, complaint, or whatever, just send a message. I'm pretty cool. At least, I think so.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

At some point in my life, I would like to meet the musicians who have been a driving force in defining my music tastes: the remaining members of Quiet Riot for introducing me to Metal (RIP Kevin DuBrow), the members of Dream Theater for introducing me to Progressive Metal and Fates Warning for defining that taste, Greg Lake, Keith Emerson, and Carl Palmer, as well as the original members of King Crimson, and Rob Lowe and Solitude Aeturnus for being a tried-and-true Doom Metal favourite. Also, my sources of motivation and inspiration, and the people I will credit for my introduction to the world of drumming (once I finally get a drum set, that is). Neil Peart and Mike Portnoy, here's lookin' at you.

And we can't forget my friends. Every one of them, from any forum I've ever made them on, no matter where they might be in the world. I'm glad I've got friends. Even if I may never meet them. They've helped shape my personality.
