Necrophilia is the brainchild of original member and prominent song writer James Treacy. Through its turbulent beginnings, the band went through a myriad of musicians to find its two other seminal members in Mathew Bishop and Chris Hanson. The band has evolved greatly from its Misfits induced heyday to a project that truly embodies the word progressive.
Their first self titled album was privately released in 2004, and even in these early recordings, one can notice a sense of exploration in genre and overall feel between songs. "We love metal, and so we will play in whatever vein will best suit the energy and atmosphere of the song." That said one can hear influences of all eclectic metal styles intermingled within many of their compositions, spanning from progressive to black metal. The band is finishing up last touches of their new work and is slated to start recording a second album in late spring/summer 2007.
Some of the bands that have had an influence on Necrophilia's unique sound are Blind Guardian, Demons & Wizards, Slayer, Spastic Ink, Sieges Even, Iron Maiden, The Misfits, Emporer, King Diamond, Nevermore, Megadeth, In Flames, Soilwork, Savage Circus, Ayreon, Aina, Master Plan, Meshugga, Dream Theatre, Kamelot, Spiral Architect, Opeth, Tool, Pantera, Anathema, and Borknigar.
