This four-song, 28-minute suite unfurls itself as a patient sonic journey, littered with indie rock trappings, psychedelic flurries, morose melodies and the occasional rock spasm, all perfectly balanced by Jake Sniders (MINUS THE BEAR) plaintive, fleeting vocals. Lackadaisical in its nature, Desert Strings and Drifters inhabits the realm between the conscious and the sub-conscious, where dreams and the cognitive thought process collide. Desert Strings and Drifters is best absorbed as a whole, lest one miss any of its beauty, passion and emotion.

Appleseed Cast frontman, Chris Crisci, departs from space rock and moody atmospherics for a multi-instrumental fuzz-folk masterpiece featuring the talents of Jordan Geiger (Minus Story) and Nathan Richardson (The Casket Lottery). Layers of home-recorded toy pianos, glockenspiels, childrens xylophones, trumpets, and cellos combine with the traditional folk-rock instrumentation of acoustic guitars, banjos, and harmonica to form an eerie mix of Daniel Johnston, Van Dyke Parks, and Marc Olsen.

This Lawrence, Kansas five-piece has endured much in endeavoring to be a band—a distinct, resonant and exciting project as their two EPs and hundreds of performances would argue—over the past four years. Primarily, however, Ad Astra Per Aspera has taken the care and time of experience to grow into their new record, with Catapult Calypso as inspirational evidence that their creative resources have not been sapped, nor their candid musical adventurism disenchanted in the process. This limited collector’s edition of The Red Sea was created in celebration of the band's first decade of making music. Originally released in 1999 through two limited pressings of 8” vinyl, this 12” version features Isis’ 1998, four-song demo on the B-side. Packaged in a hand screened jacket with insert, with gold foil stamping throughout, right down to the labels.

Featuring members of Small Brown Bike, The Casket Lottery and Coalesce, Able Baker Fox is the culmination of friendships forged almost a decade ago. Voices hits on all cylinders and builds on the years of rock the four veterans have behind them. With a trio of singers to draw from, Able Baker Fox use their differences for layers of texture and contrast, melodic, and aggressive guitars and bass for dynamic foundations, rock solid drumming holds it all together. Some songs reflect the foursome's coming of age in the 90s, while others fill the post-punk pantry that made their previous efforts successful. Eleven songs born of four seasoned songwriters who decided to turn it up, and rip the knob off.

It’s been 13 lucky years since Coalesce first entered a studio, and still no one’s topped the Kansas City, Missouri quartet’s paradigm-flipping noise/metal/hardcore mash-up. Well, put down your tablature and start sweating, Junior, because the boys are back in town, and they’re tweaking this genre harder in two new songs than their trail of admirers has done in, like, forever. Recorded with longtime producer Ed Rose (Get Up Kids), and featuring the now-classic lineup of Sean Ingram (vocals) and Jes Steineger (guitar) alongside The Casket Lottery’s Nathan Ellis (bass) and Nathan “Jr.” Richardson (drums), Salt and Passage somehow manages to lower the distortion while magnifying the bone-powdering traits that’ve made Coalesce a musical superpower: riffs twisted like tree limbs, rhythms you need extra vertebrae to headbang along with, and that inimitable, Tokyo-leveling roar.(Released in conjunction with Crash and Bang).

Deep in the dark heart lies a vulnerable gift. Hidden away, it is gnarled but soft and can be carefully pulled open like a dusty sky and let alone...wandering like an aimless drifter. It is both feared and fearful, as it is also quite understood and conditionally welcomed. If it is love, it is hate. If it is strength, it is frailty.
In the Pines is a six-piece musical endeavor from Kansas City, Missouri who look for that gift. Made up of two guitars, a bass, a violin, a viola, a pump organ, drums, and five vocals, their music is serene at times - other times brooding - creating an atmosphere ideal for their subject matter: narratives of a man wasting away in prison, a woman burning to death as her dress catches fire, a handless man intent on showing others the subtle gifts in life. It is dark, it is dirty, it is sometimes drunken. It is intimate...it is what we call In the Pines.

In the waning spring days of 2006, The Blood Brothers converged on Seattles Robert Lang Studios to record Young Machetes, the follow up to their 2004 album Crimes. Once again the band teamed with Crimes producer, John Goodmanson and, in addition, enlisted Guy Picciotto (Fugazi/Rites Of Spring) and together the two inspired a renewed energy and confidence in the band. Lyrically, Young Machetes remains firmly rooted in the surreal consciousness, rage and oblique politics The Blood Brothers have always embraced, yet also reveals a new, once-bitten wisdom. Pressed on five different colors of vinyl as well as a limited edition heavy 180 gram vinyl.

Originally recorded in May of 2001 immediately following their debut album In Plain Song, the sophomore recording from Lawrence, Kansas The Higher Burning Fire is finally available to the world half a decade later. The epic and orchestral scope of earlier, Left Banke inspired work has been focused to a leaner sound. Things take a decidedly more mellow turn for "Sound" and "The City Maps". The former evokes a sunny indie-cum-adult-contemporary landscape driven by singer Than Kinsey's tender voice, a cutting organ and guitar, while the latter is probably the most realized and ambitious boy/girl duet in underground music in recent memory. The closing track, "Once You Her" finds bassist Raymond Morin assuming vocal duties, backed by the thundering drums of John Anderson, the slide guitar and organ stylings of guitarist Zach Holland, and a haunting chorus of female voices. Members of The Higher Burning Fire currently make up 3/5 of White Whale.

Blusom captures the soul of analog manipulations by ENO, BRANCA, and RHYS CHATHAM by creating a sonic backdrop through the use of modulated acoustic instrumentation, field recordings, traditional and digital percussion, and inventive recording techniques, while using very few samples or synths, and without sequencers, Meanwhile, they manage to erect these visions around Behrenhausens delicate, personal pop structures a la EAST RIVER PIPE. The Metapolitan is a diverse listening experience highlighted by up-tempo rock, no-wave nods, affecting ballads, and infectious indie-pop.
