Blending the raw power of metal, the hook of mainstream rock, and the high energy of punk, Vatikan Seed has a style and musicianship all their own. Formed in February of 2005 by guitarist Matt Gouin and bassist Erc Ortega, the band has drawn on influences ranging from the melodic to the mosh pit. It is this blend of originality and tradition that has earned the band a loyal following that grows with every show.
Vatikan Seeds lyrics spin tales of internal conflict, loss, pain, and self-doubt. A common theme in all of their music, however, is the triumph of the individual over the unfair hand of fate. Musically, Vatikan Seed is powerfully guitar-oriented. The band relies heavily on tight riffs and blistering solos from guitarists Matt Gouin and Justine Boudine to drive their music into the ears of listeners. Bassist Erc Ortega and drummer Nate Hieb provide a backbeat that can bounce or bash with equal effect. The mix is topped by singer Jeremy Judy, a talented vocalist that conveys all the emotion of Vatikan Seed's music through his words and performance.
From their beginnings, Vatikan Seed has defied both convention and expectation. Musically, VS is hard to categorize. Some call it metal, some call it rock, some can't decide what to call it at all...and thats just the way the band likes it. As a group of friends, the band has overcome personnel changes, personal tragedies and the stigma of being "just one more band". This culminated in June of 2006 when the band was selected as Artist of the Year by Makato Online Music Promotion, a world-wide music promotion site for independent artists.
Vatikan Seed's future is full of promise. In May 2006, the band began doing shows promoting the release of their self-titled debut CD. The disc features six tracks that the band wrote, arranged, produced, and recorded on their own. In the summer of that same year, the band found itself sharing stages with major-label recording artists and big-tour alumni. As the band looks into the next year, they strive to continue delivering their songs and their show to an ever-growing fan base.
