And what is good, Phaedrus, And what is not good - Need we ask anyone to tell us these things?

About Me

Random genius...
Do not believe in what you have heard;
do not believe in traditions because they have
been handed down for many generations;
do not believe anything because it is rumored and spoken of by many;
do not believe merely because the written statement of some old sage is produced;
do not believe in conjectures; do not believe merely
in the authority of your teachers and elders.
After observation and analysis, when it agrees with reason
and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all,
then accept it and live up to it.

— Gautama Buddha
You have your way. I have my way. As for the right way, the correct way,
and the only way, it does not exist.
&nbsp
— Friedrich Nietzsche
There is nothing that is a more certain sign of insanity than to do the same thing
over and over and expect the results to be different.

And what is good, Phaedrus, And what is not good -
Need we ask anyone to tell us these things?

Whether you think you can or whether you think you can't,
either way you're right.
&nbsp
— Henry Ford
The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism
by those who have not got it.

— George Bernard Shaw
In a time of drastic change it is the learners who inherit the future.
The learned usually find themselves equipped to live in a world
that no longer exists.
&nbsp
— Eric Hoffer
No dead principles can help, but only living consciousness.
Be absolutely unprincipled and just follow life.
&nbsp
— Osho
The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom;
The tigers of wrath are wiser than the horses of instruction;
One law for the lion and ox is oppression.
&nbsp
— William Blake
I regret not the mistakes I have made, I regret my actions which were flawless.
For without flaw, no man can learn. And without learning,
there is no gain.

— Jim Morrison
Your problem is... you're too busy holding onto your unworthiness.
&nbsp
— Ram Dass
It does certainly seem to suggest that if man continues in the direction
of enlightenment, his religious practice may, in the end,
attain some semblance of human decency.
&nbsp
— Mark Twain
All that we are is the result of what we have thought. The mind is everything.
What we think we become.

I like a man with a future and a woman with a past.

My Interests

Well... just moved to L.A from Dallas. Loving it. Isn't it 75 and sunny where you are? Ok, ya know what? Fuck this rain! 5 days in a row? Come on! I've done Seattle already! Ok then, not necessarily in this order... movies, music, reading, writing, sleeping, dreaming, loving, learning and laughing at it all. Whole Foods, hiking at Runyon Canyon, Manhattan Beach, playing bass and guitar and writing bad songs, drinking coffee, the Interwebs, science, technology, alternative medicine, social dynamics, human potential, self-actualization, spirituality and healing, quality in all things, experimenting in the kitchen, drinking the good stuff when I can, hanging with family, close friends and the elusive Zoom kitty, trying to find more moments of Zen... "takin' her easy for all us sinners."

I'd like to meet:

“ Beings is an intense, roller-coaster of a ride.
It must be stressed that this movie is not for the
faint-hearted. A well-made, thoughtful production
that isn’t afraid to take chances and take the
abduction puzzle down a seldom traveled road.”

Music:

My tastes are absolutely all over the place, but lately... Calvin Harris, MUSE, Depeche Mode, Tool, Coconut Records, LCD Soundsystem, UNKLE, Kanye West, Common, Datarock, Daft Punk, The Cult, Arcade Fire, Sigur Rós, Placebo, Editors, Jurassic 5, Bob Schneider, Zero 7, Coldplay, The Verve, U2, Keane, Propellerheads, Massive Attack, Portishead, Sting, Chet Baker, Sia Furler, Iron and Wine, Oasis, Sarah McLachlan, Audioslave, Cat Power, Radiohead, Jet, Peaches, Jamiroquai, Nick Drake, Lisa Ekdahl, The Fixx, Elvis Costello, Jeff Buckley, Leonard Cohen, The Beach Boys, Duran Duran, The Doors and anything retro, old school, or disco when I'm drunk and feel like dancing (rare - the dancing). Must also rock on occasion to KISS, Van Halen, Crue, GNR, Zeppelin, Jane's, Hendrix, Pantera, AIC, NIN, Soundgarden, Chili Peppers, Disturbed, Velvet Revolver and so on and so forth...

Movies:

So many great films. I'm such a fan - and it's my work. Lately it's been anything that makes me laugh. For your consideration... WALK HARD - "You don't want no part of this shit!" BORAT! Just see it. Then see it again. The Big Lebowski - probably my all time favorite comedy. Anything with Will Ferrell - Talladega Nights, Old School, Wedding Crashers, Austin Powers, Zoolander, Anchorman - currently my most quoted film, seriously. See it or I will fight you! I love just about everything from the Frat Pack, Woody Allen, Monty Python, Mel Brooks, the Farrelly's, anything with Bill Murray, anything written by Charlie Kaufman... What the Bleep? Quantum Edition - some great info here. I recommend this for anyone searching for answers beyond all the dogma. Also watch The Secret, then quit pretending you're a victim of life. Of course, all the great directors - Kubrick, Coppola, Scorsese, Welles, Hitchcock, Fellini, Godard, Polanski, Bertolucci, Speilberg, Oliver Stone, Ridley Scott, Tony Scott, David Lynch, Michael Mann, Tarantino, Rodriguez, Linklater, Christopher Nolan, Wes Anderson, David Fincher, Guy Ritchie, Spike Jonez, Ang Lee, Sam Mendes, Danny Boyle, Michel Gondry, Gaspar Noe, Fernando Meirelles, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu... Special props to the editors - Walter Murch, Michael Kahn, Pietro Scalia, Thelma Schoonmaker, Paul Hirsch, Jill Bilcock, Stephen Mirrione, Dody Dorn, Christian Wagner...

Television:

30 Rock, Nip/Tuck, Flight Of The Conchords, House, Deadwood (we pray for your swift return), John From Cincinatti (what? monads? you don't get it?), Entourage, Sopranos (Yes, I'm the one who actually liked the ending), Curb Your Enthusiasm, Rome, Dirt, Las Vegas, 24, The Office, My Name is Earl, Daily Show, Colbert Report, Chappelle, Top Chef, IFC, Sundance, PBS & gotta say FUEL right?

Books:

I tend to be drawn more to non-fiction - psychology, philosophy, spirituality - Eckhart Tolle, Ken Wilber, Robert Pirsig, Frank Tipler, Neale Donald Walsh, Deepak Chopra, Lao Tzu, Robert Thurman, Benjamin Hoff, Wayne Dyer, Napoleon Hill, Esther & Jerry Hicks, Ram Dass. I am currently re-reading "Story" by Robert McKee.

When an Empty Cup is Better than a Full One

Nan-in, a Japanese master during the Meiji era (1868-1912), received a university professor who came to inquire about Zen. Nan-in served tea. He poured his visitor's cup full, and then kept on...
