About Us
On August 29th, a devastating storm swept through the city of New Orleans, taking lives, property, and the hearts of manythrough its tremendous winds and deluge. Also lost in the storm was a once vibrant all ages scene that revolved aroundCypress Hall in New Orleans largest suburb of Metairie. Now, almost seven months later, the original promoters return with anewer, better venue, aptly named The High Ground.
Many of you are now all too familiar with the images of invading water, collapsing homes, and ruined lives broadcast overtelevisions throughout the world, but you may not be familiar with the aftermath for those of the music community in andaround New Orleans. Those who remained in the city were left without a viable place to attend shows; with no venues, touringbands marked New Orleans off their schedules.
With the opening of The High Ground, New Orleans all ages scene returns to prominence with a first-rate venue offering qualitysound, dynamic lighting, and a professional atmosphere. Catering to a vast array of music that varies from metal, punk, ska, rock, emo, and various sub-genres, The High Ground remains open to signed as well as unsigned bands. The venue has also beena breeding ground for local artists just beginning their careers in the music scene.
Signed bands who have frequented the establishment in the past include: Darkest Hour, The Know How, Dead to Fall, SoilentGreen, Streetlight Manifesto, As Cities Burn, Curl Up and Die, Goatwhore, The Higher, Bedlight for Blue Eyes, Embrace Today,The Red Death, Cannae, Minus, The Street Dogs, Dr. Chud's X Ward, The Red Chord, Shattered Realm, Ramallah, Diecast, Hoods,Jacknife, The Banner, The Absence, The Black Dahlia Murder, Premonitions of War, Beyond All Reason, Bloodjinn, Houston Calls,Adelphi, Buried Inside, Action, The Unseen, Defiance, The Ghouls, and Voodoo Glow Skulls.
Our venue remains dedicated to the massive recovery of Hurricane Katrina. We ask that booking agents and bands add this venueas a regular stop on their touring schedules; that labels and bands donate CDs, DVDs, posters, shirts, and other items tothose who lost their entire music collection; and music supply companies donate equipment to those who lost their gear in theflooding and looting.
