Welcome to the Chai Collective - "A Celebration of Life." The logo I created is composed of two Hebrew letters, the chet and yud - from right to left. This is one of the most common Jewish symbols. Also, it has a numerical value of 18. The mystical aspect of Judaism is rooted in numbers. This system is known as Gematria and it assigns a value to each letter based on its position in the Hebrew alphabet. Chet is equal to 8 and yud is equal to 10 - resulting in 18. Some say 18 is a lucky number.
Chai - It's the Hebrew word for life. In order to correctly pronounce the CH, make the sound like you are trying to clear your throat. Then say, I. When you can do it in one breath, you got it! Now you're ready to use it. Most people have heard the Jewish toast, l'chaim (to life). Cheers!
Collective - Done by or characteristic of individuals acting together; "a joint identity"; "the collective mind"
I joined the Chai and Rasta colors, after learning about the connections the two cultures share. I believe that there is a oneness between all people, cultures, and religions; however, each is distinct. This notion is best expressed through a symbol mixed of two unique yet connected views. Also, I thought it was a great way to embrace my Jewish identity and joy of reggae music. I hope others will share my outlook and become my friend on Myspace. Let's spread the Chai.
Judaism as a culture is very focused on life, and transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary. Together we can transform Chai into a blended symbol, representing the mystical quest for a Jewish spiritual life - our collective desire to “Get Chai†- embrace life.
This mix is meant to spread and spark interest in Jewish values. When images are looked at in a different light (color), they appear fresh and help us understand our perceptions of TRUTH.
