About Me
Ramon Grajales a.k.a Ray G has been making instrumental hip hop, trance, and drum'n'bass, tracks since 1997. He has gained experience developing his music through determination. Ramon was the 3rd runner up in Rolands nation drop a beat competition which inspired him to get his music on satellite radio. This man never stops. His hard work, determination, and achievements are inspiring and meaning full to others.Looking back into the life of the man they call Ray G, Ramon Grajales grew up in New Jersey and had a passion for music. His father played bass. Ramon would often go to band practice and shows to watch his fathers band perform. He loved the crowds reaction to them. That reaction sparked something in him that would be the foundation for the coming. As time passed, Ramon taught himself to play guitar. and later gained interest in the synthesizers after he came across one at his uncles house. Immediately, he fell at home with it. He bought his first $250 radio shack synthesizer that could Record real time on its 5 track sequencer. At this point he had his desired instrument, but which type of music he would create was the question. That question stuck to his mind until his junior year of high school (1997) when he was introduced to underground dance music, such as The Dever (acid trance), Jamie Myerson (jungle), Crystal Method (breaks), and later djs like Tiesto (trance), Arman Van Buuran (trance), and Paul Van Dyk (trance) etc. Ramon found the cool thing about this music is that it could be produced by one person. No one to tell you how the bass line should go, and no one to miss practice. Ramon started making simple jungle/drum'n'bass tracks. His cousin Paul (a.k.a Kamouflage) and a few friends listened to his tracks giving him constructive criticism. Ramon continued practicing through his high school year. When Ramon graduated he got a job selling cars and took the money he made after paying rent, and other bills, and started investing in his talent. First on his list to buy was a $700 hundred dollar alesis synthesizer and $800 Roland mc 303 groove box. A few months later he bought a fostex four track digital recorder, Roland sp202 sampler, and Korg N5. With these production tools at hand, Ramon started putting together a cd called the Next Level showcasing his ability to create different styles of electronic music ranging from techno, hip hop, and jungle. The cd was not ment for the masses however; it did and still does give the listener a chance to experience what this mans creativity is all about. In 1999, a crew by the name of Bangin Productions put together a local dance event called Simply Liquid. It featured all djs with exception of him and another local producer/dj named Extra live. Ramon needed a performing name so he thought quick and just called himself Ray G it was simple, and people already knew him by Ray so the G stood for his last name. With a performing name he took on simply liquid it was his first live performance that left a permanent mark in his life. Ramon states that, to watch people who never heard or seen you before appreciate your work is worth everything. Its the ultimate rush. So, taking the experience of performing live home he understands that he still needs more time to develop before really showing off his material. In mid 1999, Ramon. upgraded his equipment, by purchasing a custom computer for audio editing and mp3s uploads to the net. Iuma, & Dj central.com were one of the first free web sites that would allowed mp3 uploads. These web sites were hosts to unsigned artists. Internet surfers looking for music to download could get the artist songs for free. DJ central offered the same thing as Iuma only it was aimed more towards urban music like dance and hip hop etc. Ramon would use the opportunity to gain exposure. This was a great time in his life as he was spreading the word that is Ray G.In 2001, Ramon had become more advance in audio production and also wanted to explore the art of 3d animation video production. He had dreams of making his own music video that would be based on a few of his live performances. This dream would become a reality within a few months when he put together a short video titled the Next Level. This video was named after his first cd (Next Level) and has plans of releasing the video on DVD in the near future.Ramon came in 3rd place in Rolands National Mc 909 Drop A Beat Competition in 2003 for making a trance track named Blue Sky which received great reviews from listeners and with the launch of his web site in 2005 people can expect to see and here more from this one of a kind music producer and he was even managed to gain the respect from well known djs such as dj pleasurehead. In a 2005 interview with dj pleasurehead, pleasurehead was asked the question, who is your favorite producer? and his answer was, "(dj pleasurehead)Again this changes with my tastes, but currently I really like a trance producer by the name of Ray G. Some of my other all time favs include Nostrum, Chris Liberator, PVD..all talented producers"interview referencehttp://www.explodingplastic.com/features/djpleasure
