About Me
I was born. Yes indeedy, I was born. It's a great family tradition. I decided to do it in Bedfordshire, England because it was very handy for Luton airport ( dead posh ) though to this day with all my world travelling, I have NEVER flown out of Luton airport.
I spent most of my happy childhood in a village where wellies were about as a la mode as it got, but who cared when your social life consisted of sitting in woods in the middle of the night. I KNEW I wanted to be an actress from a very early age. Instead I 'copped out' and went to Kingston, one of Europe's top fashion schools, for 3 years of pure hell.
Despite that, I went into fashion and graphics anyway and love it. I persued my acting passion on the side and compensated for the lack of fame by making an exhibition of myself wherever possible.
Developed a love of 60s mod fashion music and design through a pre-pubescent passion for the Man From Uncle, The Monkees and The Beatles, long before I even knew what a "fish and finger pie" was. Partially thanks to my famous cousin in a brilliant band called Dodgy, I became a music industry groupie in the 90s, boozing in the Good Mixer and Blow Up with all the aspiring Britpop stars, hanging out at aftershow parties and backstage at music festivals laughing myself stupid with some of the best friends I will ever, and am glad to say still, have. Ahh happy days!
The Britpop phenomenon coinsided with a huge mod revival where I was overjoyed to realise I was not the only person in the world wearing liquid eyeliner. The mod scene and the UK northern soul scene have been important in my life ever since. So much so, that when I moved to the New York in 2000, I found it necesssary to found The Subway Soul Club with mates, Jeff and Scott, so we had somewhere to dance.
I was also a founder memeber of 60's soul group, The Dansettes, and am still a HUGE fan of all its off shoots. I've have had a wee exhibition of my artwork and have completely failed to become a scootererist, despite many attempts to own a legal and working Vespa. I generally love anything that involves being in, under or on the water. Nowerdays I am am an art director/ senior designer doing kids bags in Manhattan and enjoy doing all of the the things mentioned on the left, which is not to say I wouldn't like doing them just as much if the column was on the right.
I'd say I'm am generally a happy optamistic person, which belies a deep and enquiring mind. This year has really challenged that I have to say but, "Where there's life, there's hope" I maintain. And if you're dead? Well, I hear that's supposed to be pretty good too, so you can't lose really, can you?Best
DawnPS Dusty was never returned but little Lulu ( found living on the street in Park Slope) is now the light of my life.
