ABOUT:
2009 Carolina Music Award winner, Chad Mackey is a 22 year old singer/songwriter based in the artsy town of Asheville, NC.
Since beginning his journey with songwriting at the age of 15 and picking up the guitar at 17, fans have been drawn to Chad's music by his catchy "feel good" melodies, and honest lyrics, which are inspired from everyday life, different experiences, and love. His current album “Chad Mackey Band” includes 12 songs recorded with his band, and a newly added (2009) bonus track.
Chad is "building a name for himself in the regional coffeehouse and club scene," says Take 5 of the Asheville Citizen Times' entertainment section. He can be seen playing various types of shows, from intimate solo/duo acoustic shows in coffee shops to full band shows in clubs and bars. His live full band shows have also found their way into well known venues such as Charlotte, NC's Amos' Southend, The Visulite Theatre, The Evening Muse, Tremont Music Hall, as well as the famous Orange Peel in Asheville, NC which was voted as one of the top five rock clubs by Rolling Stone Magazine. For these types of shows he often plays as a four-piece and is joined by guitarist/vocalist Matt Shaughnessy, bass player Dillon Goodman, and Greg Lilley on drums.
In June 2008, Mackey, Shaughnessy, and Goodman, released a full length project they recorded together entitled “Chad Mackey Band”. Mackey calls it the sound that he has always been going for, which is acoustic guitar driven "feel good" rock. Chad's sound is a blend of laid-back island vibes, funky-rock grooves, and happy love songs.
With a growing fan base, Chad feels it is important to have an album available that best represents who he is as an artist. This is what inspired the “Chad Mackey Band” project. "I want make sure that myself, and everyone else, wants to listen to the record the whole way through, feel good about it, and be able to say that every song on that record is a good song". He has spent the last few years molding himself as an artist and finding out which direction he wants to go. The result is apparent in the “Chad Mackey Band” album.
Chad is currently in the process of writing and recording for his next album.
