About Me

......

Hey, I'm Thom.

Since the dawn of my MySpace adventure, my profile has always been a bit of a novel, even if I have tried to vary the style in which it's formatted. But now I'm going back to basics; still waffling on and on, but no frills. Just the blunt truth which you may or may not find amusing. But I'd like you to read all of it, and let me know what you think. Cheers.

[Use the following links to go straight to bits you want to read!]

The Basics

So yeah, as previously established, I'm Thom. Born and raised in Swindon, Wiltshire, arguably one of the worst places in the history of time, and any other history for that matter. But given that history is measured in time, all other histories are pretty much useless. (And yes, that includes Michael Jackson's greatest hits album “HIStory.”) My birthday is the 4th February, and I was born in 1988. I stand at about six foot, sit at a little bit less, and my height whilst lying down depends on my ever changing posture. I'm not a shape-shifter or anything, however.

Music

Easily the most important section of them all, it's my life, I eat sleep and breathe it, it's buff. Mainly into rock and indie stuff, but occasionally dabbling in chill-out and electronica and alsorts. Check out my music list on the left hand side, I try and keep it up to date. Thanks to some blog I've signed up to, I get an email every so often with loads of random albums available to listen to, and also through websites I currently review/have reviewed for, I get sent alsorts. As well as reviewing CDs and gigs, I get to interview some bands too. So far I've done Athlete, Maccabees, The Automatic, Shiny Toy Guns, and more. Oo, name drop. And I've been in a band or two, not to mention my attempted solo music. (Which is my profile song, by the way.) All links to everything, bottom of this blurb. Oh yeah, and music festivals give me the horn.

Education

I went to Lawn Primary School, and was always being told it was the best in Swindon. Now I've grown up a bit, I've figured that probably every school was told that. We had a gross green tracksuit uniform, but I retained the grey trouser look from infants. Mainly because I'm hard as nails. Lawn fed into Churchfields, just about the last place I wanted to go to secondary school. I didn't enjoy school or anything, it's just that I knew what I was going there for, and the thought of interruptions every six seconds for a retard to hurl abuse at a supply teacher in a failing school, wasn't my idea of how it should work. So luckily I got a place at Commonweal in Old Town, and met some pukka people there. This was all about the time of the 'trender/townie/rocker/goth' revolution, and luckily I'd managed to wiggle into the rocker group. And it's clear we were the best, let's face it. I wasn't radical in my clothing, opinions, or love of satan, but I liked Offspring with a passion and that seemed good enough for most people, happy days. These are the friends I never want to lose. I believe we go by many names, including the oh-so-original “Commonweal Crew,” and the “Love Crew,” coming out of the “Summer of Love.” All this meant was that a few of them group had become couples. Everyone else just sat in the Town Gardens being happily single, playing cards and having a laugh. Everything from accidentally throwing rocks at year 7s, to tricking your friends into drinking your urine – all in a days work, really. From there, practically everyone moved onto New College, where new members joined the crew and some kind of faded away. I myself got an alternative group of friends thanks to taking AVCE Art, and I love them to bits. Absolute legends. Not as sedate or coupley as the Love Crew, I was having a ball. From there, everyone darted off to different Unis and I found myself at Bournemouth studying Computer Animation, something I'd wanted to do for a long time. Unfortunately, it was a sack of wank, no word of a lie, and the following year moved to Interactive Media Production, where I was/am far more comfortable. But seriously though, if you take Animation at the NCCA (National Centre of Computer Animation,) then you expect to animate. Not to work out useless mathematical equations, and build simple computers from scratch to perform logical tasks – fuck that my friend, fuck that indeed. Thus, I find myself having a significantly better time studying Interactive Media Production. Don't as me what it is; I'm not entirely sure myself.

Location

I've already said Swindon's shit so I don't think I need to go into details. I'm not sure there's even a debate in the matter so I don't have to confirm and expand upon the initial point raised – it's wank. However, Bournemouth, is the sex. I love it. Awesome nightlife, awesome friends, great beach, great house, great everything. Happy days. Part of the Heathwood Road massive, I'm having a ball. It's sicker than the Black Plague.

Employment /Going Out/Bars

I'll breeze over my paper-round and temp work for Woolworth's, if you don't mind, and move straight onto when I entered into the bar world. The Spot in Swindon gave me a chance and taught me a lot, and when I left for Uni, luckily was still able to work there upon returning home for breaks and such. In Bournemouth, I stupidly thought, being a student, that working in one of the busiest student bars in town, would be awesome. I was oh so very wrong, and to this day, still hate Toko with a burning passion. If I go out I want to be around nice people, great music, and be able to be served within four hours of queuing. Points made. And then, nearly a year later, after applying to Bar So (yes, a proper bar,) I got a trial in 1812. The shizz of the shizz. Not really known to students, it's a hotel cocktail bar, with over a hundred on the menu. It's a steep learning curve, but it's the sex, it really is. It's always winning awards, and I'm very proud of my job. Yeah boys, I'm a mixologist. How'd you like that Toko? With your eggy-beer, your crap selection of spirits yet wide selection of corkies, your Dj that could be replaced with a CD on repeat, and a general sense of bollock-ness. I also feel similarly negative about places like Elements, and a lot of places of a similar genre. I used to love 176 on Wednesdays for Fatpoppadaddy's, then it all went downhill and moved to the Fire Station. Then shortly after it moved to Dusk Til Dawn, and touch wood, it'll be back up to 176 standards soon! Consortium on Tuesday nights for sexy indie raves, are pretty buff, I won't lie to you. And the great bars over the nice side of town, like Bar So and 60 Million Postcards, are of course well up there on the list of priority places. And if it's a pub you're looking for, Inferno without a shadow of a doubt. It's owned by Scream, (loads of cities have a Scream pub.) And in comparison, Swindon is shit for going out. Friday indie nights at Brunel used to be pretty fandabbydosey but they Liquid went and bought them out and now it's a thing of the past. So I just sit in and play with myself.

Drinking

Places I like to drink are in the above section, sorry. This is just about drinks. Yummy yummy drinks. I'm a cider man, lager gives you cancer. No strong organic opaque cider though, just your regular, you know. And from then I'm not too fussy although I make a point of avoiding tequila and a lot of neat spirits. Vomitting violently at school and college parties had put me off of certain spirits for long periods of time, but when I got to Uni I realised that beggars can't be choosers, and just accepted nearly anything. Everything from vodka lime lemonade (yes that's right i'm actually a girl,) to gin and tonic (yes that's right i'm an old paedophile,) to jack daniels and coke (yeah, i'm a wannabe-gangster,) to everything in a fish-bowl, (and then yes, i'm anything and everything you want, please take me to bed.)

Other Interests (Including women.)

Besides friends, drinking, and music, not much else really. I mean there are things I enjoy like bowling or whatever, but I haven't done it in aeons so it doesn't count as an interest as such. I suppose laughing is pretty high up on the list, and making others laugh. Believe it or not, despite this crazily serious profile, I'm actually a fairly quick-witted guy. And then, of course, women. Now I've been single for a heck of a long time, and I love having fun, but that doesn't mean I'm not looking for more. I'm just very picky. And interestingly, it's the people I've thought I wanted more with, that have screwed me about, making me extra cautious as of now, as I fall for people far too easily. But the single life can be fun, and I'm just out to have a good time. And to give a good time, of course. That's where the tongue bar and big willy come into play. Oh fuck, did I actually just type that? Jesus, I'm a mess, eh?

Religion

Fuck religion. It starts wars.

which is nice.
However, don't be offended if I tell you to piss off.
Don't add me if you live in another country, or if you live MILES away.
Don't add me if you're a lonely guy or a homosexual guy thinking they can swap my sexuality.
Don't add me if you're all mouth and no trousers.
That is all, Ithink.
