In September 2005, Sander and Bram met each other at the Universalis Introweekend, the one holding a guitar in his hand and the other a couple of beers. Half an hour later, they had written a blues song on a crippled five-stringed guitar. This song was called the Five String Blues. The heavily intoxicated performers called themselves 'Fivestrings and the Offbeat Poets'. Three months later Sam, Charlie and Wolle joined. The name: Fivestrings.
Now, two and a half years later, the band has grown into a five-piece music machine and are anything but kidding around. With Charlie leaving to Groningen and Sam on a semester abroad in New Zealand, we've been going through a period of change. Hugo hooked up his bass and Joel took command of the drum kit, bringing new dynamics and fresh ideas. Over the past couple of months we have gotten closer to a sound of our own, combining Radiohead, Coldplay and Oasis influences with our fresh outlook on Rock music. Where our first album was a stew of all kinds of different styles of music, the new album We Are Fiction sounds more like a coherent whole. Containing dramatically improved older songs like "Temporarily Mine" and "Nothing Is Permanent" and smart newer songs, We Are Fiction gives an adequate depiction of a band on the rise. Songs like "Heaven In A Grain Of Sand", "Sleeping City" and "Tell Me", represent the kind of music you haven't heard before... We promise!
