Duncan Peltenburg was born on July 8, 1973 in The Hague, Netherlands. At the age of 14, after getting his hands on his first electric guitar, Duncan began taking guitar lessons at the local school of music.
In high school, the budding artist was a member of a popular school band performing at school assemblies as well as other school and local functions. In his late teens, Duncan had already begun playing in clubs with a rock band, which featured his distinct style of shifting from a tender clean sound to a fierce overdrive.
Although initially inspired by rock guitarist such as Steve Morse, Eddie van Halen, Steve Vai, Michael Landau and Jimi Hendrix, the young guitarist began to explore the musical genius of more "hardcore", non mainstreamed artists, including Scott Henderson, Allan Holdsworth, Dann Huff, Brent Mason and Wayne Krantz.
Over the course of the next few years, Duncan Peltenburg continued to hone his guitar skills by studying guitar at the Rotterdam Conservatory. It was during this time, he became familiar with the styles of both jazz and fusion music.
As a sideman, Duncan has accompanied a wide variety of bands performing at many clubs and Dutch festivals. He is also an instructor of guitar at the School of Music in Rotterdam.
Duncan Peltenburg's desire to explore "new worlds", both musically as well as geographically, created the opportunity to perform at the distinguished International Association of Jazz Educators Conference in New York City, 9th International Guitar Festival in St. Petersburg, Russia; Tallinn and Tartu, Estonia; Morgins, Switzerland; the INA, and the Centre Culturel Francais (CCF) in Bamako, Mali.
An interest for African rhythms, and Duncan Peltenburg's interpretation of those rhythms, have significantly influenced his way of expressing himself as an artist musically and have become a trademark of his performances. This unique blend of styles has gained Duncan Peltenburg quite a following of avid and loyal listeners.
The music of the Duncan Peltenburg group can best be described as "World Fusion". Consisting of guitar, bass and drums, the music is a mixture of rock and jazz with African and country music influences.
