About Me
Pure Light Seed...A mission...inspiring movement through music...sharing stories of love and perserverance through melodies and songs. And songs they are...rock, heavy soul power, hip-hop, folk, reggae, and blues. A true alternative. A family style group founded on the constitution of modern music: James Brown, Led Zeppelin, Bob Marley, Public Enemy, Miles Davis, Funkadelic, The Grateful Dead, etc.. The message?...Positive. Directed at the consciousness of the people. The sound?...An entre. Heavy driving bass and drums seasoned with edgy guitars and timeless vocal melodies...atmospheric...roots.
The group is made up of five members with guest musicians. Matt "Hambone" Miller-drums, percussion, and background vocals, Shahid Mustafa-percussion and vocals, Jason Alburger-lead guitar, Dawit-lead vocals and rhythm guitar, and Chris "Bassie" Wall-bass.
Chris "Bassie" Wall (Bass Guitar), a native of Guyana, South America, is well versed in playing styles of jazz to reggae to rock. He has played, performed and recorded with the likes of, Brokyn Marbyls, Merich Flecher, Galit Zach, and Focal Point to name a few.
Matt started out as a percussionist playing go-go music, DC's own indigenous underground genre. Over the years he honed his skills as a percussionist in various rock, jazz, latin, r&b, folk, reggae, and world ensembles. He studies and plays folkloric percussion and rhythms from around the world and is truly one of the more talented percussionists around. On the drum set, he is a spirit that cannot be contained.
Shahid is a natural born M.C. and superb percussionist. Born in Chicago, he honed his skills working with many different producers and musicians, including the Art Ensemble of Chicago. His extraordinary skills and lyrics and skills landed him a feature in the Sources Unsigned Hype column. His solo cd, "Endependence Massive", is truly a work of art. Hip-Hop at it's best. Shahid adds rhythms of percussion and the rhymes which gives Pure Light Seed an earthy vibration.
Jason is a heavy blues and folk influenced guitarist who helps solidify Pure Light Seed's thick wall of sound. This young man never puts the guitar down. Tasteful, his feel and tone can steer the music into imaginitive vamps and then bring back home with a chord.
Dawit is the voice of The Seed. Matt calls him the contemporary Curtis Mayfield. His honest lyrics and sweet melodies reflect a genuine love for everything good in this world and an unfettered hope for better things to come.
Guest Musicians include:
Bro. Sababu "Throwback Woodshed" Al-Zahir (Bass Guitar & Vocals) and Nigeria's own, Nwachukwu "Chuks" Awa (Congas & Percussion).
Dawit & Pure Light Seed's first studio recording, "Love Still", was released in 2003 and helped to establish their soulful side. Pure Light Seed's first band release titled, "ONE", was released in early 2006 and gave fans a taste of their current and ever growing sound. Their next cd will be released in late 2007. Get ready for the revolution.
