HOBOS IN LIMBO

Rough and rowdy and always ready!

About Me

HOBOS IN LIMBO came together in a kitchen in Southwest Albuquerque one morning in May of 2003 with Virginia born street performer "Fast Heart" Mart, bluegrass banjo player Kevin Jones and punk rock bassist Roblyn Crawford. Each possessed an undying love of mountain music, and each shared the missions of revitalizing and interpreting the songs they loved best, while continuing to write new material in the genre that would stand the test of time.
The two songwriters in the band are prolific. Kevin Jones and "Fast Heart" Mart have written modern bluegrass songs that have the sincere feel of olde-tyme music without being derivative. The compositions are fresh and the topics often modern, (credit card debt, The Apocalypse, divorce, gentrification) and often ageless, (the splendor of the ocean, racism, unrequited love.)
In in July of 2003, The Hobos recorded a session on their front porch. This became their first CD entitled "...on the porch...". This rare recording includes two Kevin Jones originals, eleven standards, a cameo by a resident cat, a rainstorm, and even crazy neighbors drag racing. You can purchase and download the CD in mP3 format from their site at

Sounds Like: WIG WAM BAM REVIEW:Hobos In Limbo On the Porch [CD 2003]Albuquerque’s newest bluegrass band gets big points for not relying on the same obvious standards as everyone else but throws in some blues-y numbers, a few songs that would qualify more as ‘folk’ if you wanna split hairs and one song by the overlooked and underappreciated Elizabeth Cotten. Particularly inspired on the X-mas disc is Mr Santa, a clever re-working of the Chordettes 1954 chart-topping gooey sweet hit Mr Sandman. Looking back to tradition as inspiration, the Hoboes are steadily improving; in fact their live shows kick the ass of their own recordings. Like rocknroll, there’s nothing like live pickin’ and grinnin’.
